The think is, people who can afford the real won't buy the fake, the one who buy the fake can't afford the real but will eventually buy the real once he/she has the money. In that sense it's free advertisement for German cars. There is only one problem, if the buyer really thought that he/she bought a real Mercedes but ended up with a fake tarnishing the German brand. But get real, you deserved to be framed if you can't differentiate a real from a fake Mercedes.

Counterfeit cars have been on the Chinese market for over a decade now but our sales figures in China are still growing much more than anywhere else in this world, which means the few fakes did not damage our reputation and that's what matters.

So no, we couldn't make more money than we already do since the fake buyers don't have the money to buy the real one anyway.

Yup those with money buy only original...but there is thing called intellectual property rights. As a german i am surprised you dont feel anything. The chinese copy the designs and files for patents. Once they get them, it becomes legal in china. How can it be a complement to the brand. I guess it would be better if the germans outsource the entire designing to china cos anyway they would be copying.
