How to lose weight fast but safely

Who is Oscar ?
You tag him every now and then
is everything all right? :D

Off topic - hope I don't get a 'strike':

Oscar is one of the heavyweights of this forum. At one time, his moral authority was next only to Niaz Sahib, but of late, for reasons unexplained, he doesn't get involved much. His signatures are among the most hilarious on view. Try and look up some of his old posts (even the ones where he is terminating a thread or obliterating some poor fool for inappropriate behaviour). Many of my close Indian colleagues think he's gone across to the dark side; I think he's had a bellyful of dealing with bhakts or reading their bilge and keeps away for the sake of his digestion.

I wants to gain some weight at least 5 Kgs because I lose my weight few months back but I don't want belly either, any suggestions.
There is an old saying and it works: Get lean before you get bulk.

That means the best path to lose weight is to lose STORED FAT mass. Do not worry about getting muscle bulk. Any stresses on your muscle you will gain some muscle mass anyway. Whether you do cardio such as running or bicycling, or resistance weight lifting, you will gain better muscle quality. But if you do have any stored fat, you should focus on lowering them BEFORE your focus on muscle mass.

When I was active duty, I used to workout with a flight surgeon who was also a pilot. Most flight surgeons are neither 'surgeons' nor pilots. They are MDs whose primary focus is on aviation medicines and their main victims...er, I mean patients...are pilots. But a flight surgeon who is also a pilot is rarity.

Anyway...This doc also did time in sports medicine. His hypothesis is that if you can do compound exercises with your body weight, most of the daily activities such as lifting groceries or the baby, changing a flat tire, or doing housework, you will not have any problems regarding your overall muscle-skeletal conditioning. Other issues like high blood pressure or diabetes are separate from this. So, if your body weight is 160 lbs or 75 k, if you can bench press, squat, and deadlift this mass, you will have better than average muscle, bone, and tendon conditioning than most of the general population.

The best compound exercises are the three main: bench press, squat, and deadlift.

You can add overhead press and clean and jerk as well.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overhead_press
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clean_and_jerk

Personally, I just do the three main ones as I have limited room in my home gym and I feel great overall.

I have been following the doc's advice for decades. I say that I do not go for the Superman physique but the Spiderman one, meaning lean muscularity rather than bulk like Ahnold the Terminator. I am 54 yrs old and usually people guesses me at 10 yrs younger based upon my body appearance. I point out the grey on my head but still people always guesses me to be in my mid to late 40s. My waist size is 28 in and often I have to shop in the Boy's section for pants. My G/F love to grope my abs.

Go lean, young man. Chicks digs it more than bulk.

You don't need carbs due to desk job. The only way you will lose weight is by burning the stored fat (carbs). Starve your body of carbs so that it is forced to burn the stored - no other way about it.
That is so true as I have a desk job. Once in a while, I may have to get up and walk down to the Production floor, but most of the time, either I sit or stand at my desk and work.

Hunger does not mean you are dying or being nutritionally deprived. It just means your body is calling for quick burning sugar, which is bad if you have a desk job. So cut out the chips and ice cream bars. Better yet, do not eat at all between assigned meal times.

Damn!

My thighs are barely 3 inches less than you waist.

Cheers, Doc

I was slim and fit but had this habit of eating blindly. I was not one of those people who never read information on food label to get clue about calories /fat/sugar before eating them. I am fond of those food which are unhealthy i.e Pizaa, pastaz, ice, creams, sweets, cakes, rice, roti etc I thought that i will never gain weight but i was wrong ..Now some test suggested that my cholesterol level is high and i was told to lose some weight . My GP said that people from south asia have higher risk of diabetes and heart related disease and their unhealthy food dont help it either but instead make it worse . I cannot live without roti/chipatti even though reduced it from 4 to 2 roti daily ..I started walking one hour daily but it did not made any difference as just lost half KG in one month. My work has minimum physical activity as sit on chair most of time which dont help it either
any tips and suggestions ?

The simplest way that works for me is that I simply reduce my overall food intake(that also includes drinks and beverages). Specially eat very less at night.

Do a super breakfast. You will feel less hungry at Lunch.
Eat fruits only in lunch(less sugary fruits)
Do your dinner at 7pm. And eat less than usual in Dinner.
Stretching exercises.

This looks about right, but I'm stuck with wanting to do a steady decline from breakfast (a good, filling one) through lunch (less but enough to carry me through the afternoon and evening) and ending with dinner (lean and austere). Since eating fruit or curds at night is supposed to build acidity in the tummy, it means I have to eat those by lunch, which is fine. But then what happens at dinner? Soup and sausage (or halal equivalent)?

[Later] Forgot the stretching exercises, whenever I have time and the possibility of people not observing me and falling over laughing at the sight.

Less of the sherry and Shrewsbury biscuits, young fella me lad.

No man. Pure muscle. Cycling. Key is fitness. Did a century ride yesterday at 22 kmph. Did 55 kms today morning at 23.

The sherry n biscuits remain around the abdomen. Stubborn. 38-39 inches and holding ...

Need to go off rotis n bread again. Rice n potatoes too.

Picked up 4 kilos on an overseas trip. Dropped one of those since my return. 82 kilos on a 6 foot, broad frame is hardly "fat" ...

Cheers, Doc

Some fruits will actually cause acidity, so it requires fixing later on, as per persons body reaction.
Actually body types play a far deeper roles. Some bodies are more accumulating, others are not.

In dinner, take usual curry (pulses, vegetable, or may be some meat curry, all are good with less oil)with half chapati. Curry contains herbs and spices, and these things keep your body used to. Chapatis(wheat chapatis) contains proteins as well as some starch. This meal seems simple, but actually its not.
If stretching exercise are not possible than hanging exercises may be tried.

There is an old saying for that...

For breakfast, eat like a king.
For lunch, like a prince.
For dinner, like a pauper.

The idea here is that you should have a large meal for that energy jolt for the day's activities. The smaller lunch is to sustain the energy level. And the smallest meal at night is because you do not burn as much calorie while sleeping, so this portion should be just enough to do away with the hunger pangs, but not so large that you actually feel full. In essence, the only meal where you are allowed to feel full is the first meal before the day start.

To lose weight under this eating pattern, you must reduce portion sizes, and fast once in a while by skipping either the mid day or evening meal, but always have the first meal.

Actually, @gambit, this is the modern reversal of the authentic French saying, which was precisely the reverse:

Breakfast like a pauper,
Lunch like a prince,
Dine like a king.

As you have pointed out, this modern adaptation is the most appropriate. Your recommendation ties in with most of the sensible, actionable advice on this thread.

Felt like killing myself after reading your post.

I think so, too. Tolerating bhakts is hardly useful for anyone on this planet. Even for bhakts; they'd be happier dead.

I think I've got what I needed, about diet and weight loss.

Thanks to @Proudpakistaniguy for introducing the topic, and thanks also to @Cookie Monster for tipping me over the edge; I've been wondering about the diet I'm following, and he's put all that to rest in a remarkably useful post. There were other very useful inputs, but the take-away I have is a heavy breakfast, oats with milk, eggs, any which way, but boiled as often as lot, and a glass of juice; occasionally an optional banana or some other fruit. Snack at eleven, lunch on soup and salad, a little tea around 4, sometimes featuring an indulgence like an egg puff, and soup at night.

One of the most useful threads, and thanks very much everyone. You will all have much to say to each other, so don't mind me while I slink away.

You are fat doc.

Maybe. But a lot less than I was just a few months back, so that's progress.

I'd like to see what you are when you reach my age btw.

Cheers, Doc

His reversal has nothing to do with bhakts at a narrow level. And is more a world view.

Again, just my personal opinion.

Cheers, Doc
