And I have a very strong belief, one that grows every day, that it is just plain bad luck. That it is largely due to unfortunate turns and twists that might easily have gone the other way. That until the 50s and 60s, before some damn' fool or a group tried to egg things up, things were going gloriously well for Pakistan, and that in the early 60s, she suffered a collective rush of blood to the head, and all that followed stems back to that. You are being too kind; we can't blame "luck" after so many decades.

The midwives and nursemaids who birthed the country didn't manage to establish robust institutions to reflect their vision. The jackals got their claws into the system early on, and will bleed the country dry before they give up an inch. The masses, as in most countries, are far too disorganized, demoralized, apathetic or complicit to mount any significant challenge to the entrenched elite.
