Stupidity knows no bounds. China spent all the money and built a white elephant something Lankans could care less about.... long story short ... there is no shipping or trade to say being done from that port that is not to say that China doesn't care or want to revive its investment. It is strategic to China while it's a gamble for Sri Lanka.. get it? If Sri Lanka had it's skin in the success of this port maybe there would have been something going on at that port ... likewise if Pakistan has no interest in propping up its infrastructure don't leave others holding the bag....

It's more of a debt trap by funding projects which may or may not work. In the case of Lanka with only 20 odd million people, did they need a second port? So now they have an empty port, an Airport where no flights take off or land and a cricket stadium with more seats than the population. All funded on high interest by China.

The comments on this article are quite entertaining. They simply show how inadequate people's knowledge on history is, comparing to how swiftly they comment on the relevant subjects. For example, the 99-year lease and Hong Kong. The place called Hong Kong is actually made of two parts. Hong Kong island, which is what gives the place the name, and the place called "New Border" (translated literally from Chinese), which is actually connected to the mainland and much bigger than Hong Kong island. Hong Kong island has nothing to do with the 99-year lease. It was taken by the British after the first opium war. It was simply a spoil of the conquest. The 99-year lease was for the "New Border" and it was completely under British law for the lease period. Basically China temporarily gave up its sovereignty over it. Neither is the case for Sri Lankan port. But that doesn't stop people from making the comparison.
