I haven't seen the video, but from the descriptions here it seems clear he only said a few words about the thing the attacker was promoting, and did not physically contact anyone.

Our religion is not founded on pacifism nor does it teach it. This spin is the political leanings of the leadership class who's interests align with the western world and have a vested interest in ensuring thier nationals are subservient.

Our Prophet (pbuh) is our greatest role model. He was a scholar and a warrior. He was merciful and combative where it suited the interests of the religion and his state. For every sufi Saint there was a sufi army.

All mankind in its nature is peaceful. Conflict is generally for access to or for protection of resources. All ideological spin is applied afterwards to make it more societally palletable.

In Islam we are taught to use violence to defend ourselves if required. We are not taught to crusade.

Depends really on the perspective. Many species, including many humans themselves, who have been treated as resources (human slaves from Africa, India and other countries, and non-humans who number in the hundreds of billions and have their children's and parents' bodies cut up while they're alive in front of them for the consumption of their flesh), will dispute the "peaceful nature" of humankind, or large sections thereof.

In Islam we are taught to use violence to defend ourselves if required. We are not taught to crusade.

If you ask the crusaders, they might also have said the crusades are for defense, for protection from future attacks, for the recovery of the holy land, and so on.
