Jamaat trio remanded for 16 days
Dhaka, June 30 (bdnews24.com) A Dhaka court has remanded three top Jamaat leaders in police custody for 16 days each in five cases.
However, all three were given bail for the initial case of hurting religious sentiments for which they had been arrested.
Jamaat-e-Islami's chief Matiur Rahman Nizami, secretary general Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed and central executive committee member Delwar Hossain Sayedee were taken to Dhaka's Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court amid tight security around 4:30pm on Wednesday.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police have also appealed to the court to implicate them in cases related to the murders of freedom fighters during the independence war in 1971.
The court rejected bail petitions of the Jamaat trio.
