Actually It is not a religious festival but a festival of Hindus. Companies make various type of rakhi in which some may have a picture of Hindu Gods on it.

Someone even mentioned that people of other religions also celebrate this festival. Maybe they celebrate as I’ve seen many Sikhs wear this rakhi thing, but I’m not sure if they REALLY do and whether they’re welcomed or seen in a negative light by Hindus.

So, are you kind enough to elaborate a bit more?:)

someone in this thread said it's not a religious festival, then why the religious wristband?

Its a hindu festival but the riturals are not compulsorily hindu. It is like some people like holy wordings on their belongings like 786 though that thing in particular has nothing to do with religon.

Though wiki says it's a Hindu festival but I think it's not, if you read history. A Hindu Rani lady sent a rakhi to Mughal emperor(Muslim ofcourse) to save her.

Me being a Sikh we always celebrated rakhi. I think Indian muslims of Northern India also do celebrate.

As far as god figure on rakhi that is not essential, rakhi can be of anything, may be with Dairy milk chocolate head on it.

yes they do... even Christians and muslims to do that. Although a hindu lady may pray according to her rituals and a muslim lady prays according to her. There is no compulsion on how to pray and all. Raksha bandhan also has a history of being used during independence struggle when the people use tie rakhi to make everyone sure that they are like brother and sisters and will always be there for each other....

In fact hinduism does not restricts anyone to practise anything. Like if i want to pray in a church hinduism does not restrict me neither it restricts other faiths. Actually hinduism is bit complex so easily misintrepreted. Hindusism believes in oness of god though majority of hindus do not understand this fact.
