What's new

Gwadar is set to replace the Malacca strait

that would be fine if you think US Navy cannot blockade Gwadar

a tiny correction: it is not their money :-)
Chinese are very smart, some of this money will be "investment", most of it will be on loan. And railway line if built will mostly be used to flood, cheap Chinese goods into Pakistan.

Capturing the Pakistani markets and destroying the local competition.

European, African, and Persian Gulf ships will no longer have to pass Malacca straits and South India to send goods to China - they will unload at Gwadar, which is going to be linked to China by a $58 billion dollar railway.

This is a massive development.
Pakistan will effectively control a huge chunk of the world's trade.

It's also now in most of the world's interest that Pakistan can achieve stability and development.
No its stupid and unrealistic

It will take 100x more cost to rail stuff to China from gawadar (unless it's electrical then may be 10x) sure it has strategic value to have a open channel all the time but that channel is Russia and central Asia no point from gawadar

Now for western China yes. It's cheaper

But for western China to develop China would need to put 50b$ into this infrastructure and I don't think Chinese elite really care about western mountain people

The rail system will have to be electric and electricity infrastructure will have to be built

So far china is just interested repeating high return projects from Pakistan and Pakistan can't afford such expensive projects

entire CPEC is loans - either a direct loan, or fees from build/operate/transfer model or power tariffs

CHina's 90% -population is in the EAST. west china is mostly mountains leading upto tibetan plateau, very sparsly populated. For china, it can become strategic alternative, but, this is not world war time. very very likely that there wud be world war 3. But, ofcourse, if it happens, it wud be china vs rest of the world for sure.

What world you livin in? Pakistan is already flooded with Chinese stuff without Gawadar firing on any cylinder. Pakistan doesnt produce anything, only DHAs.

the most feasible route is China and Pakistan negotiate with Afghanistan on wakhan corridor and from chitral railway line go down to Mardan
Yes, this is the easiest solution for the Chinese govt to accept.

If $58 billion is needed, its attractiveness is lower than Thailand's Kra Canal proposal.

its contingency route if Americans are blocking oil and trade for China by choking the Malakka strait.

US navy is too strong

but now, China can the at least some oil and trade but not like ULCC/VLCC tankers ships capicity.
To be honest, in the eyes of Chinese people, the US Navy is not as powerful as you imagine.

China has an annual shipbuilding capacity of 39.7 million tons, while the USA has an annual shipbuilding capacity of 400k tons. We are a hundred times more American.

The cost of Type 055 is 850 million US dollars, while the cost of Burke 3 is 3.5 billion US dollars.

If we are willing, we have the ability to have a stronger navy.
