What's new

Gwadar is set to replace the Malacca strait

8 years and $46 Billion later, how much money has Pakistan earned by transiting goods to China?

Any guesses ?
I don't know about numbers but I can tell you CPEC has resulted in the end of frequent blackouts, the benefits brought by motorways are too many to list (Pakistani roads are now on better than India's), etc.

Oh no, the Chinese forgot to consult Indians on the internet before proposing a project worth three times more than India's entire railway budget.

They live rent-free in your head
Chinese did their study alright, and then only proposed $58 Billion bill constructing a railway line through Himalayas.

By all means construct a single railway line that costs two times the entire annual federal budget of Pakistan, but don't ever believe, that you will be able recuperate that amount by transiting goods to china.

Here is for context, constructing a 1000 km strech for a normal broad gauge railway line, costs about $1 billion.
Here you will be spending approx $ 50 billion for constructing just a 100 km strech of railway track through Himalayas.

But at what cost to the consumer, what is the price of electricity now compared to what it was in Pre CPEC days?

Pakistani roads were always better than India's. Nawaz Sharif made sure of that through his motorway projects in the 90s.

European, African, and Persian Gulf ships will no longer have to pass Malacca straits and South India to send goods to China - they will unload at Gwadar, which is going to be linked to China by a $58 billion dollar railway.

This is a massive development.
Pakistan will effectively control a huge chunk of the world's trade.

It's also now in most of the world's interest that Pakistan can achieve stability and development.

This railway makes little sense for Pakistan - given poor trade ties with China with Pakistan making nothing that China wants or needs. The whole purpose of this rail link is to reduce China's dependency on the Malacca Straights and to offer China a trade and oil corridor that is more risk free by closer links with the middile east and as such China should pay for it itself.

Pakistan should not be tasked with solving China's strategic geopolitical issues at Pakistans cost !!!!!

Of course - common sense is a limited commodity these days - esp with the Generals at GHQ wanting Dollars for DHA'istan building programmes.

CPEC has not delivered much for Pakistan relative to the cost and impact of foreign exchange reserves - this new proposal from China needs to be treated with caution.

Efforts to fix Pakistan are like masturbation. Good effort, but 0 outcome.

resulted in the end of frequent blackouts,

At a very steep price. Pakistan cant compete in manufacturing even with Bangladesh.

Better ask China BOT 30 years.

Generals will earn huge bribes in return, their kingdom will become more stronger and fascist in coming days

How many ships travel from ME,Africa to Chinese water daily ....cost of transportation/travel time/product life/project execution time ...imagine, Gawadar is jackpot for China.

its contingency route if Americans are blocking oil and trade for China by choking the Malakka strait.

US navy is too strong

but now, China can the at least some oil and trade but not like ULCC/VLCC tankers ships capicity.

that would be fine if you think US Navy cannot blockade Gwadar

a tiny correction: it is not their money :-)

I think the railroad can technically be built, but China should only do it when there’s a representative government in Pakistan.

It’s good that the alignment of the track is on the Middle Eastern side of Pakistan, west of the Indus. With the Raja of Sindhudesh, Zardari, ruling permanantly it’s best to stay clear of him and his demands for a large percentage.
Raja of Sinduhdesh is subservient to the Maharajah Ranjeets of GHQ. The latter will be the first in line to sabotage Chinese railroad on behalf of their colonial masters. As they've sabotaged Gawadar for 60 years.

According to Adil Raja the attacks on the Chinese in Pakistan started after Bajwa decided to dump them, forcing them to pack up and leave.

It seems like there’s no dehshadgardi without wardi. No project with the Chinese can progress without bringing the generals under control.

This port is going to be an environmental disaster. Karachi started out similar but now is a hellhole.

This endless growth is going to be our downfall.
