Sindh police receives list of MQM, ANP workers to be arrested

KARACHI: Sindh police received a list on Thursday naming workers of Awami National Party (ANP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) who are to be arrested.

According to a statement issued by MQM, it includes arrest orders for MNA Farooq Sattar, Opposition leader Sindh Assembly Faisal Sabzwari, Adnan Ahmad and Ashfaq Mangi amongst others.

Aside from a list of names, the document contained the names of political parties the respective workers are associated with, their designation or post at the party and their addresses.

The list was submitted by intelligence agencies to the Sindh government, who later forwarded it to the federal government, after which it was handed over to Supreme Court. The police were then notified to arrest the named workers.

Other parties whose workers are named in the list include Pakistan Sunni Tehreek (PST) and Kutchi Rabta Committee (KRC).

Earlier in the day, members of MQM walked out of the National Assembly session to mark a protest over the arrest of several MQM workers on Wednesday night.

The MQM claimed that police was conducting several raids to arrest their workers and was subjecting them to torture in police custody

CJ assails Sindh govt, equates Karachi to weapon smuggling hub

KARACHI: Pakistan’s top judge said Thursday that weapons in large quantities were being smuggled in through the Karachi port and supplied throughout the country, including Balochistan.

Citing media reports, he said around 19,000 containers carrying weapons for Nato and US forces fighting in neighbouring Afghanistan had gone missing.

Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, who headed a five-member Supreme Court bench, came down heavily on the chief secretary Sindh and provincial police chief, saying both were not realising their responsibilities to ensure protection of lives and property of citizens.

The bench, with Justice Jawad S. Khawaja, Justice Gulzar Ahmed, Justice Athar Saeed and Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed as its members, was hearing the Karachi law and order suo motu implementation case at the apex court’s Karachi registry.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the reports submitted to the court by IG Sindh Police and the chief secretary over the missing Nato containers, the court summoned chief collector Customs to the hearing on Friday.

Questioning competence of the police, the court asked why CPLC was successful in catching culprits of kidnapping and murder cases, while the police was still unable to come up with anything substantial.

The bench was astounded with the advocate general Sindh’s statement in which he declared Karachi a ‘war zone’. CJ Chaudhry wondered why the advocate general of Balochistan had not given a similar report when worse cases had taken place in that province.

Meanwhile, Attorney General of Pakistan Munir A. Malik also submitted a report before the court, stating that the major reason for worsening law and order situation was the ‘growing population’ in the port city.

He also stated that drug cartels, weapons smugglers and gangs operating in the city had become a norm.

The federal government’s report further stated that any major operation in Lyari should be avoided. It also advised on banning pillion riding, while cautioning against shutting down cellular networks without prior coordination.

The report also revealed presence of a militant group namely “Muhajir Republican Army” in Karachi and recommended legal course of action upon identification of its members.

The court was also told that any mobile phone SIM card which could not be verified by September 15 would be permanently blocked.

The chief justice remarked that there was an ongoing turf war between different groups in the city and the federal government had not given any input to the provincial government during last two years to normalise the situation.

The bench directed the attorney general and advocate general of Sindh to seek instructions from federal and provincial governments to ensure protection of citizens’ lives.

The bench will take up the case again on Friday, Aug 30 at the Karachi registry.

Duffers don't accept their idiocy ...........

This is not an operation ... This is revenge to calling for army ............

SO you accept deep down, Army supports MQM, and they will leave them and would do operation against others, thus weakining them and leaving MQM the only player in town. Perhaps, this "dry dreams" of yours and other MQM walas stem from the fact that Musharraf literally handed karachi to you guys, and you still believe Army is sympathetic to you guys

let the game begin

this time we will make karachi province :pakistan:

Karachi will only become a province over the dead bodies of patriotic Pakistanis. I include myself in this statement. There is no need, no reason to make Karachi a seperate provinces unless we decide to make all the districts or divisions into provinces.

But seeing your post I understand what those MQM thugs meant when they said "Sheher Hamari, gaon tumhara" and what was it they said about bhookey nangay sindhis who once made up 60% of the Karachi population during partition and now make up less than 8%. Sindhis were right. Our muhajir families were provided shelter by them and we kicked the Sindhis out of their own land. How unfortunate my country is to be full of bigots like you. For me @A.Rafay will always be a brother rather than MQM terrorists like yourself.

The only solution for Pakistan is to ban old politcal parties like the Sunni Tehreek, PPP, MQM and PMLN. End of story. We were close to realizing this goal when Musharraf for some wierd reason introduced the NRO and forgave all political parties. I can only apologize for what MQM has done to us Pakistanis. How it has divided us and given birth to ethnic politics. I am sorry to Rafay and everyone else because it is my rishtedaars who vote for the evil MQM. Its a sad reality. Karachi may never see peace once again.

you guys always see on ethnic lines

the sindhis themselves elected PPP which is not giving authority to karachiites who gave mandate to MQM

they have all the authority of police, local government, revenue and they are not even willing to spare one penny for karachi which provides them 93% of entire sindh revenue

so either they give us the authority of the city, the authority of revenue, law enforcement and entire management and let us govern our mandated cities or we want our separate province
