Iron brah probably said no, I'll repeat here what I said on the Sri Lanka thread. The US should not help any nation repay Chinese loans. Default means no imports, no fuel, no raw materials and no investments. Besides no matter what the US does to help, the people of Pakistan will vilifying, blame and continue to act against US national interest - hard pass.

US has an interesting diplomatic challenge with respect to Pakistan. Over the course of its long history, the US may have had similar challenges before - but I do not know of any that is quite like this one.

Pakistan's strategic friends have always been determined by its singular and most important geo political goal - get back Kashmir from India. The US on the other hand does not care about Kashmir and the South Asian squabble over the region - one way or the other. In the last decade, US has become more wary of China's rise and therefore tries to empower countries who also share a self interest in defending themselves against China. India is a lucky beneficiary of this American foreign policy goal. This American national interest is the obvious reason why Pakistanis hate US - there is no other reason.

So, can US just forget about Pakistan as you say? I don't think that US can afford to do so because Pakistan will become fully reliant on China. America is a super power and the status is real because most countries around the world acknowledge that it is so. Letting smaller countries like Pakistan run to China without any game plan will be an eventual loss for America's larger interest. Recently, the USAID launched a hydro electric power project in Pakistan - https://pk.usembassy.gov/the-united...expand-green-energy-and-improve-power-supply/ - this was never noticed or discussed here. This is the type of low cost electricity that Pakistan's economy needs, but no appreciation for the community for this free infrastructure that is funded by US. The Chinese power plants on the other hand generate electricity on unaffordable cost that Pakistan is unable to renegotiate. Yet, China is loved because of its conflict with India.

It will be interesting to see if the US can conquer this diplomatic challenge in Pakistan without compromising its larger geo political goal of backing countries that have a conflict with China

The main reason came across the selling of Power plants is that no friendly countries are assisting Pakistan Financially as Pakistan is in need of Financial Aid.
The government has made preparations to sell the power plants for $2 billion. Both Power plants are planned to be sold to Gulf countries.
Furthermore, the government has also decided to sell shares of the three oil and gas companies including the OGDCL. This is very sad to see friendly countries not helping Pakistan in time of need

If it is not sanctioned then how many times we get fooled by the US. Like in 71, after Soviet-Afghan war, the WOT... Our problems didn't get solved and sanctioned multiple times..no F16 etc. Now we brought change in Pak on behest of the US establishment and they abandon their puppets.

Friendly countries are indeed helping Pakistan by helping Pakistan monetize its assets. Pakistan does not have to pay interest on loans and instead can buy back these assets when its economy recovers. This is actually more respectful and a better financial proposition than any fresh loan!
