Gaza-Israel Conflict | October 2023

Meanwhile,the Sultan in 2019:

Earlier in the month, the Turkish navy had driven out an Israeli oceanographic research vessel that had been operating with the consent of the Cypriot government in Cypriot waters.[122] This act, in the context of the deal with the GNA, led to Israeli fears that Turkey aimed to "create a sea border the width of the entire Mediterranean" and cut off Israeli access international waters via the Mediterranean sea, the channel of 99% of Israeli exports.[123] Energy expert Brenda Schaffer interprets the EastMed pipeline between Israel, Cyprus, and Greece (forecasted to be able to cater to 10% of Europe's gas needs, and decrease reliance on Russia) as a joint attempt to exclude Turkey from the "Club Med" gas club,[124] but the decision to sign the deal was stated to be a response to the Turkish-Libyan deal.[125]

Where is that Sultan to send his strong fleet against Israel? Where is the Anadolu to go with their first Istanbul Class frigate and half of their fleet? Where are all these drones and the Tayfun ballistic missiles and the long-range artillery?

In these extreme sad and depressing times, especially for the Palestinians I want to recap a story which many non-muslims dont know about.

Umar ibn Al-Khattab the second caliph, companion of the Prophet Muhammad pbuh, ruler of the muslim world traveled with one servant to Jerusalem. Umar and his servant took turns riding the camel and walking. When they approach Jerusalem, the keys to the city were handed over to Umar by the bishop of Jerusalem which was ruled by Christians. He was then given a tour of the city.

There were no Jews in Jerusalem at the time, they had been killed or driven out by the Christians because the Christians blamed them for killing Jesus pbuh.

Umar asked to be taken to the temple mount which had been turned into a dump yard by the Christians.

Umar started to pick the mess up and his soldiers joined him to clean up the whole area.

Umar then asked, where are the jews and ordered for a number of families (reported around 50) to resettle back in Jerusalem.

So from 637 to 1099 (when the crusaders took the city), Jews lived in Jerusalem under muslim rule predominatly in harmony, that time was known as the Jewish golden age.

Why do I say all of this, as muslims we are not against Jews, they are our brothers and sisters in humanity.

We stand against injustice which is being metted out by zionist racist supremists who also have religious crazies among them waiting for the rapture and the world to end. These people must be defeated for there to be real peace in the middle east.

Agreed. We should create a separate thread to discuss that for sure. Don’t get me wrong I of all people will openly say I’m no Hamas fan. I like to look at both angles which is why at the start of this conflict many of the more ardent and passionate members here labelled me a Zionist bootlicker just for me saying “come on guys kidnapping people is a shit move.”.

There is a saying where we come from, don’t stir the hornets nest unless you want to get stung, if Hamas is a security threat to Israel sure that should be dealt with but this method is just wrong, the scale of it is wrong and using starvation as a weapon is unconscionable.

Anyone who disagrees with the latter is either stuck in the mediaeval era (king Richard calls and he wants his despot back) or is frankly so blind that they cannot see the woods for the trees.

You make fair points and I can't say i have easy answers.

Yes i might have handled it differently from the beginning.

But i doubt Gandhi like ideas of a week of fasting , praying and meditation , and thinking before responding , would be accepted here or anywhere else in this region .

But I think what happened deserved a week of mourning , It deserved the whole world to be shocked and think how to resolve this issue.

But i do not doubt that even after that a response would have been made.

Since it is not likely that Hamas is just going to go , or change it's policy , in fact he is getting just more extreme .

How exactly can Hamas be removed from Gaza without violence ?

Look, they started this, but the ones who made it worse every time, were the Palestinians. Of course, the Israelis didn't help either when they let all these extreme right-wing settlers demand take more land from Palestinians inside the West Bank and Gaza, demolishing houses, destroying olive trees and occupying them.

However,Palestinian violence in terrorist attacks was what kept provoking Israelis to take stricter measures. First in the 60s,then in the 70s,in the form of hijackings, attacks on tourisms, bombings and attacks by PLO. In the 80s they had conventional warfare in Lebanon. In the late '80s they had the First Intifada. Israelis kept getting stricter. In the late '90s and early 2000s when the Second Intifada started, the amount of terrorist attacks by Palestinian groups, made the Israelis put more checkpoints, build walls and fences and basically turn Gaza into a huge ghetto.

Don't think that Palestinians don't have their own share of responsibility in this. If you see a list of their early terror attacks, but in the 60's and 70s when there wasn't the level of this oppression by the Jews, you will wonder "Why couldn't they try to solve this diplomatically back then? Why didn't they try to solve this peacefully? Why didn't they negotiate to get back to to the UN partition plan?"

Well I guess the reason is,because they wanted the entire Holy Land back, thinking they could defeat the Jews, just like that blunder in 1948.
I think you’re very confused. You admit that the settlers have been relentless. Then how is it that the Palestinians have kept “provoking this”? So are you saying that the only acceptable thing for the Palestinians to do is to keep passively giving up land and houses to the aggressive settlers?

A simple message from the UN:

Remember those who support this injustice, this inhumane collective punishment of 2.1 million people in Palestine, the indiscriminate killing of women, children, elderly, men... There will be a reckoning.

Therefore, send not to know
For whom the bell tolls,
It tolls for thee. - John Donne

No,at first there were injustices. After the Palestinians started reacting with terrorist attacks and not just..well you know, conventional warfare, the Israelis started isolated them more and more, becoming stricter.

I respect the time you have taken to type this response to me, believe me I don't mean to sound patronising, but it takes a brave person to reflect on their actions. So I thank you for meeting me half-way, personally the only option to remove Hamas is to get the people of Palestine onboard, for that there must be the following:

1.Immediate and unconditional release of all hostages
2. Immediate cessation of all fighting between both parties, and opening of the unfettered humanitarian access into the strip
3. Consultation on re-establishing The United Nations Emergency Force as a peace keeping force in the region with oversight from the UNSC, US, Israel, regional states and third nations.
4. CBMs between Palestinians and Israeli's
5. Long term participatory elections and return to the Oslo Peace Accords.

All these points are easily discussed by you and me as we are far removed from the immediate conflict, but some change has to come, and it has to come from within to allow both Israeli and Palestinian people to live in peace, security and obtain mutually beneficial prosperity. The problem is as we have seen elsewhere military interventions just sod things up even more.
