kids these days get up to all sorts of stuff but if you've ever interacted with some 9 year olds, you'd know that they are innocent for the most part, their "curiosity" about their own body should not be exploited by perfectly grown adults.

He can convert to Islam and can have two wives. Whats the fuss? He has an option of doing that. Why to ask for change in the law just for himself?

A law is generalization of some practice which is acceptable to almost all living in that society. If society feels a particular law requires amendment or something new law is required then it is done so.. Law cannot be created or amended for just 1 person.

There are several drawbacks to polygamy

It gives more rights to the man than the woman ( from my experience on PDF, I suspect this will be a non issue...but just putting it out there )

Polygamous marriages tend to have many more children increasing the likelihood of children in poverty not all fathers are Saudi billionaires.

A Nigerian study shows that there is significant difference in academic achievement of children in polygamous families than monogamous ( polygamous family children tend to do much worse in school)

Several studies of arab women in polygamous marriages showed them to have much higher levels of distress, phobias, problems in family functioning than women in monogamous marriages.

There are many more studies' in all of them children and women of polygamous families fared worse, often much worse, than those in monogamous families.

Polygamy is tailored for societies where only men's voices count, hence likely to die off slowly within a generation or so.

while a scientific future human society will not have family system, in the present i am certainly not in favor of gay males bringing up children or unfeminine ( lesbian or not ) females doing so.

as for polygamy in the present, in that american example, there seems to be harmony among the three.

As the person ages towards that legal line of 18 yrs of age, we recognize that the person's intellectual and psychological development gives him/her certain what we believes to be reasonably independent thoughts. Some countries believes some acts to be independent at different ages. How they came to those figures are based upon their own unique experiences of their peoples.

18 is seen as important because that age somehow got mixed-up with western political systems ( voting age )... it is not necessary that people mature grandly at 18 age and then keep maturing every year after 18... if that was so, humans would not have seen social/political injustices and unnecessary things like wars and money system.

certainly, passing time will give a person more experiences and opportunity for knowledge but only if that person is capable of accepting them or he/she somehow changes at some point... so we must separate age from time.

there was a thread recently about the funeral of former indian president, a. p. j. abdul kalam... that thread tags into two topics on this thread, (a). polygamy, (b). maturity.

the gravedigger mentioned in that thread married at age 16 to a girl of 13 age... this was a love marriage... also, this was his first marriage... he later married his wife's friend and both ladies stayed on amicable terms then after.

I seriously hope that you will agree that the average 12 or 14 year old kid is not mature enough to make such decisions and can easily be exploited by adult people... I dont think that you would let a 40 years old stranger let play with your 12 years old daughter, right?

People between 18-21 years of age usually tend to have finished their school, they tend to have passed puberty etc etc etc

Is that so hard to get? But then again, you`re raised in a nation that stones people because of an old book
