Forty Years Ago, April 30, 1975. Who Won the Vietnam War?

In truth, the first tank is No 390, the tank No 843 is in second.

Zing__VN__1975__Tank_390_2.jpg

Yes of course it was.. But 843 made for a better picture from front making it more famous, at least in popular media. I did not actually say the 843 was the first to break into :D

actually there were many factors that contributed to the economic desaster in the 1980-90s.

- costly 3-front war cambodia, thailand and china
- econommic and political sanctions from the west and china
- wrong economic domestic policy (ban of private enterprises, etc.)
- exodus, vietnamese refugees, including chinese vietnamese merchants
- collapse of the soviet union leading to the total halt of supports to vietnam

all of these brewed to a perfect storm.

Actually, the theory was that if Laos fell, all Indochina would and that, very much did happen.

We Americans, as well as Ho Chi Minh himself, would beg to differ. Ho rightly understood that his forces would not defeat America on the battlefield, but would in the streets of American cities, on her college campuses, and in the court of public opinion in the USA. He was right. One of the last American military officers with our embassy in Saigon, met with an NVA officer after the fall of the city. The American said to him, "You know, you never once defeated us in battle." "Yes", said the NVA officer. "But in the end, that was not important, was it?" So true. Hanoi won the war. That Hanoi has chosen to pursue market capitalism, just demonstrates the pragmatic, good sense, of the Vietnamese people and her leaders.

True talk, i stil laugh when i see some naive people think the U.S lost militarily in Vietnam. America indeed never lost any battle(not even one) when fighting the vietcong(backed by the Russians and Chinese). For example the U.S did lost some battles against the Chinese during the Korean war just like the U.S lost some battles against the Japanese during world war II, but later they still managed to getr the upper hand. The war was lost politically in the U.S not militarily by the Vietnamese

LOL some westerners have spirit of AhQ.
If you do not know what is "spirit of AhQ", google it.

Umm, Battle of Khe Sanh?
I quote:
News reports of the Battle of Khe Sanh consistently referred to the struggle as another Dien Bien Phu, but in reality the U.S. and South Vietnamese enjoyed a much stronger position than had the French. In addition to a fleet of helicopters and cargo planes that could resupply and reinforce the besieged Marines, they could rely on the heavy bombing capacity of the B-52 fighter planes, which dropped close to 100,000 explosives on the hills surrounding Khe Sanh over the course of the battle. Though U.S. officials expected a full-scale attack by North Vietnamese forces on the base, it never came, and in March Westmoreland ordered Operation Pegasus, a joint Army, Marine and ARVN ground advance that relieved the base and ended the siege by mid-April, after some 77 days.

and at the end of the day some 500.S soldiers were killed while over 10000 Vietcong died.
Moreover they NEVER TOOK THE U.S BASE. so where is the so called victory in this battle??:woot:

At the end of operation, Quang Tri is liberated, Phiden Castro visited Quang Tri province under controle of South Vietnam Liberation front's Govt..

the US armed forces lost 60,000 men on the battlefields. 150,000 US soldiers committed suicide after returning home, plus 300,000 men were wounded, with 100,000 ended up as invalid. the US army never lost a battle? let see.

Lost Battles of the Vietnam War

sure, USSR and China backed North Vietnam. But do you know who backed and supported the superpower America? they came the western world, including fighting troops from South Korea, Philippines, Thailand, Australia and New Zealand. not to mention South Vietnam.

the weapons North Vietnam received from USSR and China were just a big water drop in the ocean. the military imbalance during the war was probably 1:20. in favor of the US.

US soldiers ran away from battle field, so they no needed to be surrendered like France Colonial soldiers in Dien Bien Phu battle. So they were alive and turned home, they were not a losers.:-)

WTH??? the weapons/help China and the soviet union provided was just a drop in the ocean for the Vietcong's? Lmao. I thought some Chinese members were being anti Vietnamese/biased when they said you people are an ungrateful bunch of people. :cheesy:

Truth is without the massive soviet and most of all Chinese support both in terms of weapons, tanks, artillery, weapons, logistics, manpower (there was tens of thousands of chinese soldiers/military advisers in vietnam , and some soviet union ones as well etc) the vietcong would have been decimated in a matter of months at best . So you have the Russians and Chinese to thank for your VCP survival , if not your country would still be divided into two or better still be unified under south Vietnamese U.S backed government, which wouldn't have been a bad thing IMO since it would have allowed Vietnam to develop much faster and be open to the world longgg ago. :bounce:
