FO slams Indian propoganda on Nawaz-Xi meeting

BEIJING: In a rare snub to all-weather ally Pakistan, Chinese President Xi Jinpingskipped a customary meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at the SCO summit in Astana after the murder of two Chinese teachers in Balochistan.

Sharif returned from Astana after attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation(SCO) summit on the sidelines of which he met Presidents of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Russia.

Chinese state-run media highlighted Xi's meetings with Kazakh counterpart Nursultan Nazarbayev, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Xi's unprecedented snub followed deep disappointment and grief among Chinese public over the slaying of the two Chinese citizens who were kidnapped last month from Quetta in Balochistan.

The two were brutally murdered reportedly by Islamic State (IS) militants. The news of their murders was made public ahead of the SCO summit held on June 8-9 in which India and Pakistan were admitted as members.

Yesterday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying explained that the murders were no way connected to the $50 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) which was opposed by the Baloch nationalists.

The CPEC is part of China's ambitious multi-billion Belt and Road intuitive (BRI).

"This incident will not have any necessary connection with the BRI," nor with the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, meeting being held in Astana, Hua had said.

China has deployed hundreds of Chinese workers to work for the CPEC which connectsGwadar port in Balochistan with China's Xinjiang through Azad Kashmir.

Hua said Pakistan pays great attention to the protection of Chinese citizens in the institutions there and made great efforts for their security.

"As per BRI we should be prepared for risks if want to go global. Since the three years after the BRI," she had said.

China says there is no necessary connection between the incident of killing of two Chinese hostages and belt and road initiative (B&R) and the incident will not cast any shadow over the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC)

Answering a question whether the killing cast a shadow over the B&R initiative, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said, ‘Pakistani has long attached great importance to protecting the safety of Chinese nationals and institutions in that country and made enormous efforts to this end’. Pakistan and China have maintained close communication and coordination since this incident happened, and the Pakistani has made all-out efforts to investigate the case and rescue the hostages.

‘The Pakistani side has pledged to take necessary and effective measures to ensure the security of Chinese nationals and institutions in Pakistan’, she said

Regarding the risk in the building of the ‘Belt and Road’, she said that going global comes with risks. Since it was initiated three years ago, the ‘Belt and Road’ has won extensive response from the international community and demonstrated strong vitality and broad prospects.

‘As we can see, the world today is far from tranquil. With the thorough implementation of the initiative, it is inevitable that we may meet various security problems that call for serious consideration and proper handling, which is the case for any country engaging in foreign economic cooperation’, Hua Chunying remarked.

She said safe and smooth progress in implementing the initiative calls for concerted efforts of all parties. ‘We wish to make joint efforts with countries along the routes and take effective measures to create and provide a sound and secure environment for the smooth implementation of the Initiative’, the spokesperson said.

Asked if the Chinese Foreign Ministry issued any advisory to Chinese citizens who plan to travel to this particular region in Pakistan, Hua Chunying said the Department of Consular Service of the Foreign Ministry of China and relevant Chinese diplomatic missions always pay close attention to countries and regions with security risks, and issue travel alerts in a timely fashion.

She said after the abduction of two Chinese citizens on May 24, the Foreign Ministry of China and the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan have advised Chinese citizens not to visit Quetta for the time being. Relevant advisory is still in effect, she said.

They just won't comment on whether Xi met NS or not and if not, then why?.

I hope you realize that when Pakistanis and the Chinese need to meet, the Pakistanis go straight to Beijing without needing an invite. A few Sr. Ministers running the Punjab province can be found in Chinese a lot and pretty casually. Next, the US senate was just briefed two days ago on the Chinese military's expansion plans and the other "string of pearls" they are building around India. Guess what's the HQ of that "string of pearls"? You guessed it right, its Pakistan, from the Gawader port, and another one will be built to make a major PN naval station out of it (really for the Chinese).

Just around India, they are planning 6 other naval bases including one in Sri Lanka and one in Bangladesh among other neighboring countries. So when you have this close of a relationship, there is no "snubbing", its really when you got something to say, you go over to talk to them. This is the same kind of relationship how we the US have it with Israel.

Congratulation, India.

China isolated Pakistan so that means Chabahar port is alive and ready to make some noises. :D

They will call you deluded and what you say 'wet dreams'.

They just won't comment on whether Xi met NS or not and if not, then why?

That's frustration for you.

No meeting, no CPEC? So Xi hasn't met NS is indicator that all is not fine? Of course. :D

It is more like Nawas Sherieff snubbed China by not meeting Xi.

Or you could argue that China PM snubbed pro-India PM aka Nawaz Sharif for Pakistan? :D

There is lots of factor involved. Pick one. After all, it is your platform to entertain the fantasy game. #hehehe! :D

President Xi and Prime Minister Sharif just met last month. Xi told Sharif that Pakistan is always in the priority of Chinese diplomacy. There are close and smooth communication in all levels between the two governments.

Dude, China has already started treating Pakistan as a vassal estate ......there is no other explanation for this snub. Take out your blinds.....

and the blame goes to your army and politician. Pakistan has a habit of putting everything in one basket and glorify transactional relationship to the level of getting a husband .

.
That's typical from Indian. Pakistani is Chinese Iron brother and our equal partner. Just because India tried to be adopted as a foster child by Russia or USA, it does not mean all other nations want to be a vassal state like India.

The relationship between China and Pakistan is NOT transactional and we have quite good relationship for 60 years. I know it is difficult for Indian to understand.

Your Sanghi chaddi bakht brain cannot comprehend the relationship b/w Pakistan and China...But your sane minds have done it or at least tried to understand it...

As a result, from being a lackey, Pakistan has emerged as China’s most trusted and crucial partner for its geostrategic designs, which are unfolding through the wide-sweeping One Belt One Road (OBOR) project.
