They can't do anything of consequence other than maybe cut of gas etc.

Putin has accomplished what he spent years trying to prevent. A stronger, more unified NATO right on his dooorstep. Forget about the Suvalki Gap, now NATO encircles the Russian Baltic Fleet and Russia now has many more Square miles of border to secure and cover.

Exactly, and those yes men convinced Putin he’d control Ukraine within a week. Russias own corruption is literally destroying it.

I can see why he thought he could get away with it. After all he had made small moves, Ossetia, LPR/DPR, Crimea seemingly with little more than a slap on the wrist. They even had the warchest ready to go to endure a few months of sanctions before things inevitably go back to normal.

Honestly, Macron and Sholz (France and Germany) would have likely forced Ukraine to give up, if not for the Poles and the Baltics standing up to counter the Western Bloc in the EU.

Read a twitter thread the other day by someone who stated that there was a "normalization" faction in Moscow and in the leadership/FSB that wants to resolve this war quickly. Talked about how the foreign companies forced out are waiting to come back ASAP once things are resolved. I'm thinking no wonder there is immense pressure on Ukraine by the powers that be in France and Germany to push them to resolve the war at any cost so the companies can get back to making money and they can get back to getting Russian gas.
