Filipinos Denounce Pro-US Ruling Elites, Rally for Independence

If anything some are even welcoming the US suddenly.

Several China Navy vessels are currently in the same place.

**

Why would some people on this thread wants to frame this as China vs USA or China issue at all?

I agree, it has little to do with China but more to do PH's anger toward the US -- culminated over the decades of bad treatment, loss of sovereignty, proxy status, and misery.

People make it a China vs. US thing because US policy toward the PH has been largely related to containing China. So, anything that happens to US-PH relations affects China in one way or another.

China happens to be the largest regional public goods provider. Even with that, China is itself a developing nation; is not and cannot be in the position of "saving private Ryans" in an angelic fashion.

Duterte is welcome because of his solid ground logic and businessmindedness.

China can handle the US with or without the PH on its side.

I agree, 50 % approval for China is probably as high as it gets.
Only downwards from now on.

At 50% the chance of going up or down is 50%, at 90% the chance of going down is 90%. But either way, its irrelevant, how a country conduct its foreign relationship is based on interest, not public opinion.

When Titanic was half-way down to the bottom, what was the chance of her rising to the surface on her own?

You mean Titanic was in a mood swing?

No, I mean that the probability of china raising/decreasing in popularity is not related to current popularity.
Hitler has very low approval rating and that does not mean that it is highly probable that
he will become more popular.

You can't compare approval rating for the governing entity to foreign entities that you only read about in the news.

I am comparing the approval rating of China in the Philippines (50%) vs
the approval rating of USA in the Philippines (92%),
so a Chinese boasting about relations with the Philippines is on real thin ice.

Do you think maybe Duterte is looking for closer relations with China because his number 1 priority is to prevent his country from turning into a Narco-state? One of the first things he did when he took office was to name several Chinese nationals (and gangs) as being heavily involved in the local drug trade. Maybe he's looking for China to help on their end for once.

All this anti-US stuff is baffling since we have been pretty hands off for the last 25 years (other than giving you guys over $100M in aid every year)

Probably that and economic "aid", and as for his anti-US sentment, it is hard to pinpoint whether this was because of his ideological background, the US-EU criticism in regards to his war on drugs, or he has a personal vendetta against the US - state and government and Americans.

You were dragging Hitler into your argument in case you forgot. There is nothing to boast, public opinion on foreign relation is highly volatile and its entirely media driven. As I've already said before, from 50% it has a better chance of going up than at 92%, simply mathematics.

Rating and polll is useless for third world countries as many are uneducated and no access to Internet to express their view. Those poll probably represent the very likely represent the top small percent level people.

On group reality like what u see is the real thing.

. .
U.S elites do not run the Philippines, and we hardly have any military personal there as well.

just looks like a bunch of crying commie socialist lefties to me.

The ratings over time shows around 90% with little variation.
Ratings is not about mathematics, its about the behaviour of the country rated and Chinas bully mentality,
makes it difficult for ratings to go up among its neighbours.

PIIGS....
As always, never know their place in the world.

Since they keep statistics, they know the place of both USA and China.
It is not looking promising for China.
