Anti-US regime protests are a sign of healthy political consciousness. The sentiment reflects the high approval rating of Duterte.

I would keep very silent at the moment if I were the US regime. Luckily, they are having a spectacular selection show, so, probably not too many US people are really concerned about PH's reviving political sovereignty.

Rodrigue Duerte would not be elected in China.
Reason: China does not do elections

Also, he is only one election away from beeing out-of-office, so we will see.
Whenever he make a statement, his ministers are out contradicing him,
so there is little agreement in the government.
Seeing how US is humiliated and the western lackey still trying to put on a brave front to act as winner. Pathetic.

US policy is like its economy, slowly crumbling.... :enjoy:

Considering how Duterte backtracked his comments, I think someone in his staff finally worked up the courage to inform him of that.

Yes, you win , China lose. Self comforting..

Just like how ABB humiliated US and american brag and claim themselves winning to continue their delusion. :enjoy:

The US has been out of the Philippines for a very long time (1992)...is this some delayed reaction?

Well permanent presence of US forces has been out since 1992, but the Visiting Forces Agreement signed in the late-90s returned the presence of US forces, albeit temporarily.

Not delayed reaction buy rather a selective amnesia - while there were things the Americans did good to the country, particularly pre-WW2, Filipinos tend to only see negative things about anything American...while wearing jeans, using iPhone, and eating at MacDonalds.

Public opinion are like mood swings, the last thing one want to rely on for diplomatic relation.

Exactly.

Public opinion follows diplomacy. If PH foreign policy turns anti-US, public mood will turn anti US. Public opinion is not a rigid state. Also, as the US regime knows, public opinion can be engineered.

It, then, all depends on what PH gov't really wants to do with the US.

As I see, all they want is respect for sovereignty, equality and not to be seen as a bridgehead to China containment by the US regime.

Duterte will get it in the end. Question is, will he get it by hurting the US ego and invincibility to a point of no return, or more gracefully. Currently, he seems to enjoy to slightly hurt the US ego.

The victim, 26-year-old Jeffrey Laude, was apparently left strangled and drowned next to a toilet bowl in a motel room in Olongapo city, northwest of Manila Bay.

On Tuesday, some 40 Filipino activists took to the streets, demanding the exodus of US troops from their archipelago and shouting “US troops out now!” A replica of the Stars and Stripes was set alight as the demonstrators approached the US embassy, reported AP.

“This is just so abominable. It's one of the worst hate crimes I've seen,”
Corky Hope Maranan, leader of a group of transgender and lesbian Filipinos, told the agency.

Police have stated that the person responsible for Laude’s death may have become aggressive after finding out Laude was transgender. According to the Daily Mail, Laude went by the name Jennifer. However, there is not yet clarity on the matter and conflict could have been sparked on other grounds.

“If he remains in US custody, certainly he can escape from our justice system again. We don't want another Daniel Smith,”Hops stated.

Smith was sentenced to life imprisonment after raping a Filipino woman in 2005. However, his conviction was overturned in 2009 and he was allowed to leave the country.

While a suspect in the Laude case is being detained by police, his fate is as of yet unclear. The US Marine is currently under watch on the USS Peleliu in the Subic Bay free port as the joint investigation between the US and the Philippines unfolds.

Military chief of staff Gen. Gregorio Pio Catapang expressed disappointment as the joint exercises that had been taking place had been intended in the spirit of cooperation, and murder somewhat undermines the process.

“We're alarmed and hurt because the victim was a fellow Filipino,”
Catapang told a news conference. “We have to give justice for his untimely death.” Catapang added that “this will not affect our relationship with the United States.”

The US and the Philippines have been attempting to forge stronger ties in the context of Chinese territorial claims in the South China Sea. A greater level of US military access was granted in April after the signing of a fresh accord.

I agree, 50 % approval for China is probably as high as it gets.
Only downwards from now on.
