A Canadian-Israeli Jewish woman who joined Kurdish forces in their fight against the Islamic State reportedly has been taken captive by ISIS.

The capture of Gillian Rosenberg and several other female fighters has been reported on blogs and Islamist websites, Israeli media is reporting.

Rosenberg, 31, reportedly was captured by jihadists near the Syrian city of Kobani in recent days, according to reports.

Israeli intelligence and security services did not verify the reports to Israeli media. Israel’s Foreign Ministry also was looking into the reports.

Speaking from Iraq, Gillian Rosenberg told Israel Radio some three weeks ago that she was training with the Kurdish YPG with plans to fight the jihadist group also known as ISIS or ISIL in Syria.

“They [the Kurds] are our brothers. They are good people. They love life, a lot like us, really,” Rosenberg said.

Rosenberg immigrated to Israel from Canada in 2006 and served as an instructor in an Israeli army search-and-rescue unit. In 2009, Rosenberg was extradited from Israel to the United States for her involvement in what the FBI called a lottery prize scheme that mostly targeted the elderly, CJN reported. She spent four years in an American prison.

Israeli citizens are barred from visiting enemy states including Syria and Iraq, and the government has been cracking down on Arab-Israelis returning from fighting in those countries.

Because she is female and looks non-Arab doesn't mean she can't be a terrorist. Probably she did it for money. I hope she enjoys her new host although the work she will be doing there probably won't fit her job description.

I wish the best for her.

israeli, jewish and a member of the peshmerga forces......i dont think she'll be going home anytime soon. Catching her is like a prize for those equally-barbaric ISIS savages.

she had no business being there.....idiotic woman

Wouldn't be surprised if she was working for other organizations, collecting data/info and sending it back.

israel's mossad services are knee-deep involved funding Kurdish groups - especially those working towards seperatist activities

not even a secret anymore

The situation is way more complex than you think. ISIS is a tool for Turkiye for a little while more, after that ISIS also becomes fair game. You haven't seen what YPG, on it's own, is capable of. They are no angels, nor are the Kurds. They've butchered in excess of 30,000 non-combatant Turks. Think of YPG and many other Kurds equivalent of TTP. Only then you and other Pakistani's can comprehend the real situation on the ground.

Think about it, evil Martians attack TTP, US of A comes and says that Martians are evil and are against humanity, then what do you do? I'd let Martians decimate the TTP and then join Uncle Sam and attack the Martians. Got it? :)

i think Turkish strategy is to let them 'feel the heat' and use it as leverage...

i.e. Turks will be fully onboard in the anti-ISIS camp once they have certain guarantees.....Turkiye, like Pakistan - is a security-seeking State. Given that they've contended with PKK terrorism for decades now, their concerns must be kept into consideration. The same way our concerns vis-a-vis Afghanistan must be taken into consideration, if any objectives with tangible results are to be seen.

She seems like a real dark person before she travelled to Syria. She got caught in international crimes and fraud. Looks like she would do everything for money.

This is the girl who confessed to defrauding people and served time for it, right? More likely she sees herself as atoning for past mistakes. I've seen this type before.
I heard about that, she stole elders savings or something? Still not logical decision, could have done it through different manner.
Could she be the daughter of the biggest financial fraudster of all time Bernie Madoff??

by joining a fight that is none of her business? that's one hell of a way to seek redemption

. . .
My 2 cents.

Discriminer : I don't know much about PKK or Kurdish situation in Iraq and Turkey, I wasn't from there.

But just another day, I was actually thinking of volunteering myself to Iraqi National Army after a brief discussion with my vet, who is an Iraqi Immigrant. And I found that there are only limited entry to do such a feast.

Now, Gill (or Gillian or Gila) Rosenberg is an Canadian-Israeli, to fight on the opposite side of ISIS, she would be only able to join the fight in one of the 4 ways.

1 - Join the Syrian front
2 - Join the Iraqi front
3 - Join the Kurdish Resistance
4 - Join the Lebanese front

No other major player are on this game at the moment.

For me, a Chinese-Mexican Former US Army Captain, I can just pick one and fight with it.

Now, since she is Israeli, she cannot gain access to Syria or Lebanon and fight against ISIS there. And being jewish, she probably not going to get well in Iraq, I am thinking Iraqi troop might probably died before they accept her as one of the fighter with them. Then the only way she can swing is joining up in Kurdish front.

Note that Kurdish did not pay, rather cannot pay for assistant. I have several friend, former US Special Force are now helping the Iraqi and Kurdish separately for their fight against ISIL. They did not charge a cents. For men of their calibre, shall they works in private sector (PMC) they would have earn about 100G per 6 months. And I doubt Kurds or Iraqi Government have that kind of money. If Kurd have this kind of money, the whole ISIL problem probably wont happen in the first place.

Problem is yes, they Kurds Resistance may be a terrorists organisation, and they may have killed many Turkish before, but condemning someone joining PKK is one thing, Demonize them for fighting ISIS is another. You can go ahead and blab about why she join the PKK but unless she knew "minor player" in that war, they would have to be in one of those 4 to help out. Many people want to fight against ISIL, be that Muslim, or non-Muslim. But for them to fight, sometime they wont care which side they are helping, as long as they are against ISIS. She could have sit in Tel Aviv or Montreal and sit back and watch Arab killing other Arab.

And when you come to think of it, this is how ISIS operate and this is why ISIS can gain a lot of ground and a lot of momentum during the first phase of this war. ISIS betting on the different faction in different country will not intervene. Iraqi thought it is a Kurd and Syrian matter and they didn't notice. And Turkey think this is Iraq and Kurds problem and they did not do anything. It is because of this "It is not my problem" thinking and now nearly half of Iraq and half of Syria are now in ISIS hand.

Turkish member here ought to think. Should you condemn the poor woman because she join the PKK and fight against ISIL, or you are just going to demonize her for joining PKK if you do that, then today you may say that, and tomorrow, you may be fighting ISIS yourselves as nobody in this world are going to help. Then it will became Turkey problem, only that you are facing a bigger ISIS and things may get harder to control

By the way, her facebook page is saying that this is a hoax

She is fighting ISIS, How can she be a terrorist. OP is a terrorist ISIS supporter. I support kurdish Fighters and anyone who kills ISIS scums.

So you condemn the terrorist who kills for the name of religion.
And you support terrorists who kills Turks.

Anyways, after reading meaningless ranting over pages...i think what should we do is clear.

Barrage the whole Ayn-el Arab(Kobani) with Artillery, and conduct a total aerial bombardment. Kill every, ISIS, PKK, YPG, Peshmerga, Foreign Volunteers and close the case.
