POWER CONSOLIDATION OR FAILED COUP IN SAUDI ARABIA?

Breaking: The news out of Saudi Arabia is stunning. Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal, the famous Saudi billionaire, who owns stakes in twitter, Citibank, Fox News, a critic of Donald Trump but also a proponent of liberalization in Saudi Arabia has been arrested for corruption. The whole system in Saudi Arabia is corrupt, arresting anyone for corruption is meaningless. What it means is that he is being detained not for his economic activities but perhaps for his political activities. Several ministers have been fired and many business and opinion leaders have been detained.

Heads of news channels also arrested.

On this same day there is a missile attack on Riyadh and Saad Hariri travels to Saudi Arabia to resign as PM of Lebanon. Coincidence. All of this after Jared Kushner makes a sort of secret, below the radar visit to Saudi Arabia.

Either Prince Muhammad bin Salman is consolidating power before ascending to the throne by eliminating dissenters, or there has been an attempted coup of sorts.

I doubt it is anti corruption drive. Let s wait and see the fate of all these people.

People , more experienced and knowledgeable, advised MBS about the negative impact of some of his policies. Instead of working together to fix those issues, he started arresting them under the pretext of corruption. At this rate, Saudi Arabia might descended into civil war by 2020.

Man like Talal doesn't get locked up for corruption. Thats how they do the business. There is more to the story of corruption.

Many of those whom arrested were powerful during king Abdoallah era ... but I don't know it might be really about fighting corruption ...

The corruption claims are for the simple minded ppl... those who can't think for themselfs or a too dumb to recognize the good AND the bad in an entity whatever he likes it or not...

As for the other part of the ppl..; we know it's meant to reshuffle the seats of power...

The simple minded maybe stupid in his critical thought but still... he will not accept it either if the Headlines and the escuse given by the gov will be " Eh guys...I need to get more power around here...so Yeah... I need some of them to gtfo!"so corruption escuse is better... :)

Afterall... a good part of KSA gov ( and most arab countries) is corrupted even the Prince/king himself is... the ppl knows it and arabs knows it... it's a cancer in the region...

" You can't fool a blind who can see..."

advised MBS about the negative impact of some of his policies.

Who and for what policies? The policy of allowing women to drive? The policy for developing a non-oil reliant economy?

Man like Talal doesn't get locked up for corruption.

And you know this how? He is the king, he can arrest who he wants. The only reason Talal got so rich was because he was paid an allowance from royal funds and his father lent him 100s of thousands of dollars. He owes his success to the Saudi state.

That's the plan. Countries like Pak and Turkey should get ready to take over Hijaz before the entire Ehl-I Sunnet gets exterminated along with loss of the Haremain....
