What's new

F-7P and F-7PG

The only things I'd try adding to the F-7PG is a HMD/S with a HOBS AAM and, if possible, Link-17 and a LRAAM. Combined, these features would give us our own MiG-21bis equivalent. A good DACT asset to train JF-17 and F-16 pilots.
It's like adding M2 ssd to p4

Nope. HMD/S and TDLs are more of a RAM upgrade. If not for sanctions and budgetary limits, the PAF would've likely asked for both on the F-7PG from day one if possible.

The real question is whether today's HMD/S could work from the F-7PG's architecture or not. That depends on how the PAF is configuring the HMD/S for the JF-17.

If it's something akin to the Scorpion or Archer, then the F-7PG should be able to handle it. But if it's a projected display system like the Guardian II, then no, it wouldn't work.

Link-17 would take it a step further. Basically use the JF-17's radar coverage while keeping its own radar off. A small maneuverable jet with minimized electronic signals is pretty dangerous.
Air frame life? Almost over(if not already)
Very medicore engine life/time to overhaul!

Are you sure the PG can fire Aim9 L?
Yes. PAF only uses AIM 9 L/M variants currently. It’s the only AAM F7PG carries. All of PAFs AIM9M were upgraded to AIM-9M-8/9, which is the last variant before AIM9X.
Keep in mind the Radar, avionics and many other things of Pakistani F7PG are western, not Chinese.

Could possibly turn these f-7s into a BVR Bus that escorts JF-17s and Co., kind of a loyal wingman concept.

2 main shortcomings are at the base of these phasing out, lack of space for long range radar, second lack of BVR missiles. less hard points add to the misery as well.

basically faster interceptor and point defense fighter

i am not an expert but maintaining a overhaul facility and engine overhaul facility for just 40ishf-7s who are on last leg of their airframe and would need rebuilding looks like wasting resources
f7s are out, FT7 are out
PG inducted in 2002 had design life of 2000 hours or 15 yrs..

even rd93 engine has poor life(1600hrs, 600 for overhaul), wp-13 is at pathetic level

Totally agree with that. Not to mention the older they get, the more prone to accidents thee jets will become. Need to train the workforce that has been overhauling these F-7s for decades now to switch over to JF-17 as the first examples of them are now starting to go through their first rebuilds and those numbers are going to increase steadily.

Fully agreed. I thought it was mentioned in one of the programmes ( or one of the articles) that F7 overhaul facilities would be used for overhauling/updating JFT. The PGs will go in the next 3 years. JFT is a significant upgrade on the PGs.

If an agreement has been made to make this a sticky at least amalgamate the two simultaneously running threads on the same topic

Better avionics, weapon systems and airframe and other features.
Although it's called poor man's F-16 but it's known to have spoilt the day for the same.

plus shorter take off distance... and better low speed handling
