In my view he should not be - there is great (hidden) irony in this statement. He may well not have meant it this way but he is correct.

It is actually our system of injustice, elitism, corruption and apathy that gives rise to many Ehsan-ullah-Ehsans. Hand on heart, how many of us can say that we are not brewing and breeding terrorists simply because the way run our country.

People with money can have anything and everything, including that the SC decision is stopped or delayed for their sake. And the poor have nothing except to see that they have to beg even for their rights.

Is it a surprise that there are Ehsan-ullah-Ehsans in our society? It is simply because there is no other way.

DG ISPR also briefed the media on the progress of the Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad and shared details of the operation.

“Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad is not the work of one institution; rather every Pakistani is a soldier of Radd-ul-Fasaad.”

Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad was launched on February 22, he said, adding that armed forces have conducted 15 major operations so far. About 450 suspects have been apprehended and Afghan nationals who were residing illegally have also been nabbed. Moreover, 558 suspects have surrendered to the Pakistan Army.

He also said that about 1,859 illegal immigrants have been arrested and as many as 4,083 weapons have been seized.

“We will eliminate all terrorists and their facilitators,” DG ISPR stressed. “We will investigate the amount of weapons recovered in the operations," he claimed, adding “We must finish those who facilitate terrorism on intelligence-basis.”

Four big operations were held in Balochistan, eight in KP and FATA, he informed. About 157 suspects have been arrested from Sindh, he said, adding, many suspects have been arrested in two big operations in Punjab.

“We have also done development work in FATA and other parts of the country.” The 100-kilometre area of Bajaur will be covered with fences, he shared.

He also shed light on the case of Noreen Leghari, a MBBS student who was arrested during an operation in Lahore. After showing a statement from Noreen, DG ISPR said that she had informed of her plans to travel to Syria on email and Facebook.

Regarding the spike in violence in universities and the recent case of Noreen, he said that it is our job to keep an eye on the extracurricular activities of our children, he said.

There has been an increase in ceasefire violations along the Line of Control recently, he said, adding that Indian troops have violated the ceasefire about 222 times this year. “The violation by Indian troops is aimed at diverting attention from the conditions in Kashmir.”

DG ISPR also shared details of the major operations in the country. A joint operation of Rangers and armed forced was conducted in DG Khan.

During an intelligence-based operation in Loralai a huge cache of arms and explosives was recovered. Another intelligence-based operation was held in Chaman.

Education was the target of terrorists in Swat. More than 700 students are currently enrolled in Army Public School in Swat.

Speaking about progress of operation in Karachi, he remarked that it has been claimed that operation’s pace has been slowed. “The operations have not slowed down they are moving at the same pace.” However, it is important to note that nature of the operation is different in the city, he added.

“Hopefully we will work together for the progress of Pakistan, “he added.

Is it a surprise that there are Ehsan-ullah-Ehsans in our society? It is simply because there is no other way.

If that is the case then why didn't we have ehsan ullah ehsan's from 1947 -2002 ? Why all of a sudden did we have them post 9/11 ? During the 90's our governments changed hands numerous times , we were much poorer than we are now , the poor were even much poorer and we were much more corrupt but still we were a peaceful country . Musharraf send forces in FATA and lal masjid backlash was the core reason for this . There are atleast 60-70 countries run in a much worse way then we are but still they don't have ehsan ullah ehsan's .

The way I see it, that recent Pakistani straight talking with America to clear the mess in Afghanistan is working. Ehsanullah saw it coming, he decided to turn himself to Pakistan where he might still have chance for survival.

We need to decide what to do with him. He was in one of the top TTP positions as a spokesperson and as such is responsible for the killing of hundreds if not thousands of Pakistani civilians and soldiers. Anyone can surrender when the going gets tough. It does not absolve the person however of his or her severe crimes against humanity. Also there is the potential that Ehsanullah may again revert to terrorism.

I am not sure what should be done but it shouldn't be easy for Ehsanullah, just saying he has renounced violence after killing so many innocents. Why was he part of the TTP anyway. Where was his honor and shame when he was killing our people mercilessly and speaking for the terrorists? Now suddenly we are supposed to believe that after being in a top TTP position he has given up violence just like that. Every angle should be investigated. Also Fazlullah is the main target. Kill him and we will celebrate.

Do not worry. It won't be easy. He is offering up extremely valuable intel. Perhaps the MOAB strike on the ISIS/TTP-JA tunnel network was connected.

Turning yourself in and confessing does not absolve you of your crimes under Pakistani laws --- civil or military.

He deserve death penalty , over 1000 times in public. Responsible for the death of thousands of Pakistani and thousands permanently disabled.

We did..... with different names ... every era has its own Ehsan-ullah-Ehsans

Who was Mujeeb ur Rehman?

Who was the PAF instructor that wanted to take the plans to India and Rashid Minhas gave his life to stop him?

What about the separatist movement in Sindh in the 80s?

What about the separatist movement in Balochistan - more recently?

Examples in every decade.
