i do kinda feel sorry for them; i used to see them all over in Istanbul --mostly beggars though some did menial tasks or played music outside in order to try to get sympathy money



and it's Islamic countries like Turkey that have been the most accomodating to them while their French and Italian "saviors" (according to your logic) treat them like absolute dirt -- worse than street dogs

Who said anything about Europeans being their saviours? They were cruel and vicious and oppressed them for centuries. That in no way invalidates the fact that these people were displaced by the wars of invasion of the 11th to 14th centuries.

prostitutes, really? is that just stereotyping or there is some truth to that? from what I read, they have strict moral codes within their community about cleanliness of body, fidelity, and it is must for a girl to be virgin till marriage.

yes, their descrimination and failure to integrate exposes limitations of European social structure. but I think their condition is not as bad in American countries (at least it was not mentioned in the articles that I read). do u have any link suggesting their condition is any better in Egypt and other Islamic countries? I didn't read anything like that.

Prostitutes is a bigoted way of disapproving women and men dancing together and drinking together. In fact, they have a rigid moral code and kill if this is breached.

Funniest post i read in a while....

Cleanliness: from person to person differently, in generally pretty bad, their "villages" stink, some are wanderer type, camping in the woods, the rich minority has a pretty basic vision of personal hygiene, often tons of deodorant is better then a shower though....
Fidelity: the punishment is a severe beating, men cheat always
virgin till marriage: they marry as 13, 14, 15

They dont want to integrate properly, keeping old habits of sticking together in slum villages, theft, extortion (protection money from bars) is a common proffession....
Education is pretty much nonexistant.....girls have 5 children by the time they are 22, 23......

One of the most prejudiced and bigoted posts I have read in a long while - pardon me for not adding the 'lol' that seemingly excuses any racist, stereotypical rant.

And this from a civilised cultured heir of a civilisation that killed more Roma - proportionate to their population - than Jews.

Whenever I met Roma's I always thought they were very rude people kind of like Italian mafias of Chicago...

Historical/Anthropological studies have phrases like "may be", "may have been" quite liberally. That is normal, since the hypotheses/conclusions do not have empirical evidence for every last bit and piece of information. Unlike Science. But even Scientific Studies tend to be conjectural sometimes more than we would like them to be.
Brush up on your study of History/Anthropology if you can.

Romas look like Hindus often eventhough some look White and can be pale and blonde etc. but lots of Romas look Brown/hindu. the core of "black gypsies" from eastern europe Looks hindu but they intermingled with populations among they dwell and going westwards and up North into europe you will find many more White looking roma. culturally they are similar too. Romas native Religion is hinduism. i Support hindutva and my mum is Brown but my dad is lighter skinned more european, he is only 1/4 roma and Looks southeastern european while my mum is 7/8 roma and Looks very roma.

I mentioned your wanting to meet him, when we last met in Calcutta a couple of months ago, as he was getting into the final decline, and he was most intrigued. He was looking forward to the meeting.
