Erdogan says referendum for death penalty is possible
If parliament does not pass death penalty, Turkish president says he will call another referendum

ANKARA

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Friday another referendum could be held to amend the constitution in order to reinstate the death penalty should parliament not approve the measure.

Turkish citizens will first vote on April 16 in a referendum on constitutional changes.

"I believe that the death penalty will be brought up to the parliament. I will approve it as soon as it is ratified," Erdogan said at an opening ceremony in Turkey’s western Manisa province.

“However,” Erdogan said, “it needs an amendment to the constitution.”

Erdogan said a "Yes" vote on constitutional change in the upcoming referendum would pave the way for the implementation of the death penalty.

“If needed, we may hold another referendum for [an amendment to the constitution]. If the parliament does not approve the amendment, I want to call another referendum," he said.

Erdogan launched the Yes campaign on Feb. 17 after the official referendum schedule was announced by the Supreme Election Board. The campaign began in southern Kahramanmaras, one of the areas that gave him the most votes in the 2014 presidential polls.

Constitutional reforms have been under discussion officially since Erdogan was elected president in August 2014.

The proposals aim to hand wide-ranging executive powers to the president and abolish the post of prime minister. The president would also be allowed to retain ties to a political party.

The reforms would remove parliament’s power to question ministers or to stage a vote of confidence on the government. The minimum age for parliamentary candidates would be reduced to 18 and the number of deputies will rise to 600.

Simultaneous parliamentary and presidential elections for a five-year term would be held in November 2019 under the new constitution.

The bill of constitutional changes was passed by parliament in January, with 339 votes in favor -- nine more than needed to put the proposals to a referendum.

For child abuse, high treason, terror related crimes I would vote YES!
Everyone's a terrorist in Erdogan's new Turkey lol, including the hayir camp.

I guess it's less costly than keeping Turkish prisons filled with journalists and political dissidents.

Did you read any article about 30-40 million terrorist living in Turkey?Stop nonse arguments about a country which you dont know and dont live. The poeple who will vote for no is our people and as i am a yes voter ,noone like me and in my opinion see them as terrorists. But there is one reality everybody accepts terorists organisations like pkk, gulen and their supporters declared they will say no.Erdogan only uses this argument for his campaign and gets the results.
Referendum is a democratic way and everybody knows this so try to respect our choice.

We really do need the death penalty back. The Terrorists should not be in prison at all, just kill them and be done with it.
Finally some good news at last
Define "terrorists". Most political dissidents and opposition members in Turkey are classified as terrorists by Erdogan's government these days.

Why must I define it for you? PKK terrorists must be killed. Forget about Erdogan for a moment and have a think about what I said. :)
Kill them as much as you want. The real problem arises when the state/govt begins to give a blanket terrorist label to anyone it doesn't like, which is what the caliph wannabe Erdowie's doing.

I am no fan of Erdogan. And I am not going to sit here and defend him. I just want to bring back the Death Penalty. Is that wrong of me?

Yes, the death penalty is backward. More importantly, it will set a dangerous precedent.

Reintroducing the death penalty is only the beginning. Before you know it, your country will turn into a radical Sunni Islamic version of Iran.

Erdogan has had power for 15 years in Turkey. Show us one indication that Turkey is moving towards Islamism.

Erdogan is a strong man. That's why some of the Western leaders are crying alongside their voters. Not because of Islamism bullshit, LOL

Kill all the terrorist is what i say, start with PKK then ISIS, then PYD then the rest

It might be backward, barbaric. But, what choice do we have? Ataturk hanged traitors. So, did Ottomans. And they never had to deal with PKK terrorists.
And my country is not going to turn into a Sunni Islamic version of Iran, christ sake get a grip.

Great idea, well done Erdogan!!!!

The threats to Turkey are sufficient enough that risks to the state and national security need to be taken out
