Erdogan calls Russia's recognition of Ukrainian breakaways 'unacceptable'

Good going by Turkey. If the end game is that Ukraine is prevented from NATO, they will develop deep defence cooperation with Turkey. Giving Turkey more leverage and access to technology.

. .
Turkey's location has just got more important to the yanks than even before.

Time to demand f35 ban is ended

.
Turkiye should have made a deal with russia, Turkiye recognizes donetsk and luhansk and in exchange russia recognizes North Cyprus.
Unfortunately Turks and Russians have a long, hostile history probably even more entrenched then Pakistan versus India rivalry. Goping back to and even before Crimean War turks have been Russia's traditional enemies and that continues to this day.

In fact this factor has secured Turkey a importance position within the Western grouping including being critical part of NATO. This is why Erdogan can get away with making all sort of provocative statements about Israel or even USA or take harsh position on the Armenain genocide.

.
This is not about Erdogan. The title should be 'Despite Erdogan'. There are things that the Turkish state cannot change, no matter who is the president.
Without Erdoğan there would be no any Euphrates shield and Peace spring operations, Libya, Karabakh etc all kemalist generals were opposing it. Things changed drastically after 15th july coup attempt as soon as these people were removed from office immediately those operations started. So pls give credit were its due.

F-35 will never be under full controll of its users and its maintenance and operational costs are extremely high. So thank you but no thanks.

all nato members have condemned what Russia have done, Turkey has done the same and followed the others.
This is not merely about following Nato, educate yourself on the history of Ukraine. For example Russians took Crimea from Ottomans in the first place there is a Tatar minority which has close ties to Turkey. To say Turkey is just following Nato is nonsense Turkey is following its own interest first and foremost. I really don't understand you Pakistani's obsession with Nato

It’s your compatriots who Eu send you can not join them , on nato your the one who needed them more to defend you against Ussr not us Pakistanis

i'm not offended just made clear Turkeys foreign policy is not always same as NATO policy especially if it collides with its own interest. In case of Ukraine the mutual concerns and interests between Turkey and Nato appears to be matching . This doesnt mean its always like that.

I'll give you a few examples. NATO (US and France) armed and trained ypg in syria while Turkey bombs them.

NATO (France) support Haftar in Libya while Turkey kicked Haftars a**.

NATO (France and EU) supported Armenia in Karabakh conflict Turkey supported Azerbaijan etc.

This is proof that Turkey follows his own interests and has an independent foreign policy.

Erdogan will give lip service but not much more. Turkey is looking at the unfolding situation with interest because it wants to be a power broker of its own and escape the shadow of being a vassal state to NATO.

The world is moving towards multi-polarity, driven by China's monumental rise and Russia's upending of Western red lines. Turkey, along with many other middle powers, including some hardcore Western allies like France, are watching the unfolding events and figuring out how to position themselves as the world is rapidly shifting from one dominated by a single superpower to a diverse chess board where many new arenas are opening up. Turkey will inevitably make its own moves as well, some of which will greatly upset the West, so that is why it will not take much punitive actions against Russia.
