Ending reliance on one country for defence capability: PAF chief
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Air Chief Marshal Tanvir Mehmood Ahmed said that without a strong Air Force, no war could be won nor could any country perpetuate its existence.

He said this while addressing a ceremony held to launch a book ‘PAF Over the Years’ containing Group Captain Masud Akhtar Hussaini’s paintings.

Pakistan’s role in war against terrorism is very vital; USA will soon acknowledge it, he asserted.

Air Chief Marshal said Pakistan air force faced various hardships in technological field owing to the Pressler amendment; however, in the wake of pacts entered into with China and other countries, the aggravated situation has improved now, adding Pakistan Air Force will become a modern and high-tech Air force by 2010.

Tanvir Mehmood said the well-placed strategy of Pakistan Air Force came in handy to avert Pak-India war in 2002.

He said that Pakistan Air Force fleet would receive eight JF-17 Thunder aircrafts in January next year putting once and for all an end to the reliance on only one country.

‘Pakistan has now become a “plane designing” country as it was previously manufacturing aircrafts,’ he said adding even USA is not specialist in this field

Well they made it two country from one. This al;so shows the PAF chief considers JF-17 to be chineese than a jt venture.

With passage of time Pakistan will have to work more and more towards self reliance in hi tech field as it will be the most powerful weapon in hands of any country to exist and live respectfully and without black mail.

Technological joint ventures with China and other European nations and inhouse R & D will be crucial steps in this directions.

60-70% will be made in Pakistan, he said nothing of it being completely Chinese, Pakistani engineers worked on it's designing espically after the first 2 prototypes (to improve the air-frame), and again once you bought SU-30MKI.

It's a poor translation on GEO TVs part, first learn about the person and see his other live interviews (You willn't see him make such comments).

Where I have seen Indian officers come on TV after smoking weed, and saying extremely rediclious things.

Now that's the mark of a clown!

Pity important ppl still harbour such idiosyncracies.

Please, your media isn't any different either (making poor translations), rather your own officers make idiotic comments on "Live Interviews".

In this interview the ACM also mentions that the JF-17 is better than the current F-16's in some aspects and states that Pakistan will have 8 Jf-17's by 2008. so slowly but surely PAF is maturing into a high tech force. The worrying thing is about the new F-16's, I don't think anyone should get too gung ho on them arriving.
