This is the DRDO AEW&C system..with the platform being Brazilian Embraer EMB 145I..salient features encompass :-

1. The primary sensor on the aircraft is a S-band Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar with two planar arrays mounted on the dorsal antenna unit. The system's radar will have a normal detection range of 250 km and an extended detection range of 375-km.

2. The system provides a 240 degrees (120 degrees on either side) of coverage that can be stretched to 300 degrees with some loss of range. The Phase 3 of this project is projected to possess almost 360 degree capability with radar arrays mounted in the form of a triangle, where each array covers 120 degrees.

3. The secondary radar has an identification friend or foe function (IFF), while communication and electronic support measures enables the aircraft to detect and identify hostile emitters. Datalinks to network the AWACS with fighters, and ground based control systems are provided, as well as SATCOM (Satellite Communication System).

4. A self-protection suite consists of missile approach and radar warning receivers, plus countermeasures dispensers.

5. The AEW&C features voice and data communication over UHF voice and data channels.

6. The aircraft will have a service ceiling of 35,000ft (10,700m) and a radar operational altitude of 25,000ft. The system works with 5 operators and allows for upto 7 crew members to be resting at a time.

7. It will have an aerial refueling nozzle for high endurance.

The Indian Air Force will receive three such platforms in the next three years.

.
The total order is supposed to be for 11 of these CABS AWACS,IIRC.
5 A50 Phalcons and many of these can effectively deal with the current scenario.
BTW,which A2A refueling aircraft will be used to refuel these as well as the P8's,C130J's,Tejas' etc...??

All our aircrafts have Drogue refueling probes...so I guess IL 78 will suffice.

this system doesnt sound very convincing[range, coverage and all]
shouldnt iaf just use this as a TD and ask drdo to make a better one

This is an AEW&C not a true AWACS. It lacks the command structure inside it like the Phalcon.Wait for the Phase 3 of the program.

P8I and C17 haven't, so they have to be refuelled by a new tanker (A330 MRTT or KC 767?).

We still dont know that they dont have...we thought the same about the C 130J.

That's different, because there were C130 with refuelling probe before, P8s and C17s instead has a different system and as you can see on the pic of the first IN P8I, it requires the boom refuelling system:

Once operational, India will join an exclusive club of nations owning home-grown eye in the sky systems.
Huh? The Embraer EMB-145 is Brazilian aircraft, made in Brazil, by Brazilians, except for some 'eye-in-the-sky systems which are made in India. So how are we in the so called exclusive club owning 'home-grown' AWACS?

Is the Phalcon Israeli or Russian system?

They are obviously talking about the AWACS radars not the platform.

Home grown because we can change the carriers but the Equipment will remain ours(EW suites,AESA RADAR etc).
We can mount a watered down variant of this on the Saras for all we know:P

.
good news...this will make our sky much safer from any kind of intruder, we need full 24X7 cover

That is not the final product yet. Lets see.
