Dutch soldiers who handed over Bosniak civilians to Serbian forces in Srebrenica awarded honor by PM

NATO was in Srebrenica to protect the people. It failed to do so. It did not live up to its duty. NATO is 100% responsible. When you commit to a cause you are responsible for the outcome. Of course the Serbs are the main perpetrators. NATO is also guilty of severe negligence. The Dutch are adding more salt to the wounds of the survivors.

You contradict yourself. You say NATO is 100% responsible but then say of course serbas are main perpetrators.

You are either mad at math or dont umderstand tge situation.

Also. Why does Pakistan nothing to help your muslim brothers in China?

Speech by Prime Minister Mark Rutte at the gathering of Dutchbat III veterans.
Veterans – women and men of Dutchbat III,

Ladies and gentlemen,

Since watching the moving three-part documentary about Dutchbat III, there’s one sentence that has stuck in my head: ‘Where was the world?’. It’s a question that says it all. About what you went through at the time and what, even 27 years later, still feels like yesterday for many Dutchbat veterans. And for your families too of course – the vital home front.

It is the same feeling I had when I got the chance to meet with many of you in Amersfoort in October 2015. These conversations are etched into my memory. Especially that recurring theme of powerlessness, a maddening inability to do the very thing you joined up to do: protect people and defend our democratic values. And that sense of being cut off from the outside world, abandoned by everyone. And then afterwards, you were the target of easy recriminations, from critics who were safe and sound here in the Netherlands. So yes, I understand that question very well: where was the world? And today we can’t help but think of another situation: where do we stand now, with the people of Ukraine suffering under brutal Russian aggression? How painful is it that war has returned to our continent and that war crimes are again being committed just a few hours by plane from here?

And this thought confronts us with the dreadful fate of over 8,000 men and boys who were murdered in cold blood after the fall of Srebrenica. Where was the international community when they needed protection? The answer is as upsetting as it is blunt.

The world failed them, in the most terrible way. For over 8,000 men and boys, there was no protection, no safe haven. And we in the Netherlands will be forever connected to them by history. Today, too, the memory of the victims is with us. And their families are in our thoughts. Today, and every day.

On this day, you have come together as Dutchbat veterans, to catch up with and support one another, and share old memories. This is not only valuable; it is also profoundly necessary. Of course, each of you has their own memories, experiences and ways of coming to terms with the past. But for many of you, Srebrenica remains an open chapter. The lack of recognition is something you feel every day. Recognition of the fact that your mandate, your equipment and the military support you received during your mission were all inadequate. You were sent out into the field with an assignment that ultimately proved impossible to carry out. While at your own compound there came a point when there was a lack of even the most basic necessities.

But there was also a lack of recognition and appreciation once the mission was over. You did not receive proper aftercare once you returned home. There was too little understanding for the impossible position Dutchbat III had been put in and the heart-breaking, split-second choices you had to make in the heat of the moment. And you were not given adequate support from government leaders and the military leadership, when you faced a barrage of unwarranted criticism. Obviously, there’s no such thing as a flawless mission. But only one party was and is guilty of the fall of the enclave of Srebrenica and the ensuing genocide: the Bosnian Serbs, not Dutchbat III.

The government feels responsible for that lack of recognition, and I want to be clear about this today. I have come here to offer you that recognition in a tangible form, with a sum of money for every Dutchbat III veteran and with the awarding of the Medal of Merit. But I am also here to recognise your service in words, in the form of this statement. Even 27 years later, some words have yet to be uttered. It is an oft-noted fact that the Srebrenica mission took place under a UN mandate. But that does not alter the Dutch state’s special responsibility for the circumstances in which you were deployed, the way you were treated upon your return and the lack of support given to Dutchbat III when it was wrongly subjected to so much public criticism. Today I apologise on behalf of the Dutch government to all the women and men of Dutchbat III. To all of you here and to those who are not with us today. With the greatest possible appreciation and respect for the way in which Dutchbat III kept on trying to do the right thing, under very difficult circumstances, even when that was really no longer possible.

Veterans, ladies and gentlemen,

There were two things that you certainly did not lack, either during your deployment or afterwards. The first is a sense of camradery and solidarity, which is also palpable today. No one understands you like you understand each other. The second is an enduring, deeply felt concern for the victims and their families. Through countless initiatives and public statements you have shown that Srebrenica is not a closed chapter. The pain and troubling memories do not just go away. But by confronting the past together, by finding the words to describe everything that happened, both acts and omissions, we gradually come closer to healing, closer to each other and closer to the victims and their families. Let us underscore that today with a minute’s silence for the dead of Srebrenica.
F*****g criminals. Award them, hang them for their cowardness.

Having reading comprehensions? Both NATO and Serbs are responsible. I would go one step further and clarify it for you. Both the Serbs and NATO dislike Muslims. Hence the Serbs slaughtering Muslims whilst NATO looking the other way makes perfect. This wasn't a mistake. It was pre-planned.

I understand the situation crystal clear and that bothers you. I was born in The Netherlands. I understand the politics here better than you. The Dutch aren't particularly fond of migrants and Muslims. This hateful gesture from the Dutch PM isn't wholly unexpected. It fits the pattern perfectly.

The Muslim brothers in China are perfectly fine. You lie through your teeth about Uyghur genocide.

I think this was done on purpose to again hurt the sentiments of muslims, after what happened in india. All part of the plan against Islam and muslims

Ek din aiga jab hisaab dena parayga aur hamesha ki dozakh milaygi inn khanziron ko, inshAllah

Dunia ki ruswai b anay wali ha, inke apne goray he inko sabaq deinge. Allah does not have mercy for those that disrespect the Holy Prophet(pbuh). Enjoy the little good times before eternity in hell, thats right, it will be eternity!!

.
Nice whatabouttism you wannabe European piece of shit

There were 230 dutch soldiers and 35.000 serbian soldiers.

And btw NATO wanted evacuate all muslims there in 1993 which was declined.

Beside that, nobody cares for this anymore. Shit happens, move on.

But an economically ailing Pakistan despatched a shit tonne of weaponry to Bosnia to fight the same Serbians

We are not angry at the dutch for them not protecting the martyred. We are angry at the worlds lack of action.

This is what Pakistan did alone during the 92 war

I support NATO in their bombing campaign of Serbia. Its probably the only time id support them, but the Serbians deserved it (except the civillians)

so its okay to honor them at this level. I guess the dutch had 0 radio's to call for assistance? say from nato!
They called for support and were denied.
They were armed with light weapons against a much larger army with armour.
They had an impossible task, and that was what was acknowledged.

As you appear to know nothing about the situation, why comment?

I am pretty sure that those boodthirsty keyboard warriors present in this thread would run away with their tails between their legs in a similar situation.

So did Pakistan in 1971 in East Pakistan, but they didnt run away, they fought till the very end

The bosnians didnt fight and obviously prefered to let others do the job. The 230 dutch soldiers could do nothing

Dutch Prime Minister Rutte gave an honor award to Dutch soldiers who handed over Bosniak civilians to Serbs in Srebrenica and apologized for not being taken care of enough.

Dutch Prime Minister Rutte said, "Today, on behalf of the Dutch government, I apologize to all the men and women of the Dutchbat 3 team."

Then he gave an honorary award to the Dutch soldiers working in the region within the UN body, who handed over Bosniak civilians to Serbian murderers in the Srebrenica genocide.

Rewarding cowardice and failure no wonder the American generals at the time mocked them.

Here is what the respected general John Sheehan said about;

"They declared a peace dividend and made a conscious effort to socialise their military – that includes the unionisation of their militaries, it includes open homosexuality. That led to a force that was ill-equipped to go to war," he said.

"The case in point that I'm referring to is when the Dutch were required to defend Srebrenica against the Serbs. The battalion was under-strength, poorly led, and the Serbs came into town, handcuffed the soldiers to the telephone poles, marched the Muslims off, and executed them. That was the largest massacre in Europe since world war two."

He added that the Dutch chief of staff had told him that having gay soldiers at Srebrenica had sapped morale and contributed to the disaster.

I guess they didn't have the guts of the men of the US 101st Airborne division where 12,000 poorly equipped men held of 15 German divisions, much of it heavy armour at the Siege of Bastogne. How about the Battle of Rorke’s Drift where 139 British soldiers held of thousands of Zulus? I can go on.

If the Serbs hurt these troops NATO would have opened up on them, which they did at a later stage anyway. Yet these lot let themselves been humiliated and live their life like mice. Well I guess living that one day as a lion wasn't in their hearts.
People just talk about them men being murdered but countless young women and girls were grabbed as well and gang raped as spoils of war. Children were also shot for fun.

Yes you reward these 'heroes'......

I've spoken to countless Dutch folk and virtually all of them agreed that it was shameful.
