NEW DELHI: Taking a cue from Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, Army chief Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag today directed his officers and others not to clap after his address.

"After I finish my address please do not clap. Hereafter, we will maintain the decorum of not clapping in uniform," Gen Suhag said after a round of applause following his address at an Army event here.

The General also noticed that he had forgotten to mention it at the start of his address.

He also referred to Parrikar, who after his address at Commanders' conference last month, had said he was under the impression that people in uniform don't clap after an individual's address.

What's the alternative? All in uniform should be issued placards instead which they can raise above their heads instead of clapping - like this...

Quite accurately put, but i am sorry i got late, before i could give you a heads up that 'you will soon be under fire from military apologists'--------Who conveniently will be reciting the same ol mantra( which you have already mentioned in your post)

Just because one is on a DEFENCE forum, it doesn't mean that he/she has to agree with whatever these BOSSY-BOOTS(faujis) advocate. For me it's the military tech! Not sure what lures others here, but military tech would be the primary reason INMHO.

Doctors, engineers, movie & sports celebrities all have some sort of superiority complex. Why point out the military only?
As per my observation, the persons who are rejected for military service in past mostly resort to this "bloody civilian" conspiracy.
Being a disciplined force, there are many things which they should or should not do. They should look and act in manner suitable to their job.

When I went through for PMA Long Course selection, there were more then 7000 applicants just at Lahore AS & RC. Hardly 150 went for ISSB from them, hardly 15 cleared that. Then grueling 2 years training, and after all this hard work, if still some one does not feel pride in himself, then whats the purpose of our existence?

Nope i never faced such circumstances, since my father was in Army and so are 3 of my brothers. My post was more about general perception that prevails here and globally rather than my personal experiences.

Where did I say that only Pak Fauj and myself are patriotic and no body else? (Hi-lighted as Green)

During discussion or explaining one's point, examples are used. Doctor, engineers example was related to that.
