Lol ..... i know its on a lighter note but reasons mostly range between loan waviers, subsidies on farm inputs, farming communities demanding reservation in education/govt jobs and tax free agricultural income.

People don't understand the real needs of aforementioned demands... As per my understanding, more need to be done by the government...

My grandparents were village farmers ,,, i used to have thse heated debates with my father regarding the issues u mentioned,,,he always defending farmers.Me always against thm

Hey Bro, in India, there are very few farmers who earn big bucks by farming... mostly are marginal farmers... producing just enough to survive for a year...

loan waivers : I agree with you, there are only few who really deserve loan waiver... I have seen several farmers mortgaging their land and WASTING that money on CARS and BUILDING FUNKY HOUSES... I have met just one farmer who really faced heavy losses due to low prices of cotton... I have seen my father helping his friends financially so that they could hold the farm produces till appropriate prices are available in market...

Subsidies on Farm input : A must, it helps in keeping the input cost down... it also help in MODERNIZATION of farming technique... you will be shocked to know that even after the subsidies, most farmers don't buy the equipment as they are still too expensive for them...

Demand of reservation : let say my grandfather was having 100 bighas of land... he was a landlord of his time... his property was distributed equally between his three sons... now each of them got 33 bighas... good enough to have a fair living standard... now, the third generation will get 11 bighas... just enough for living...
But the next generation will get just 3 bighas... their survival is at stake...

Tell me who deserve reservation... child of an IAS/IPS, who studied in the BEST school and collage in CITY, with TUTORS and all other facilities... or a SON of a FARMER, who helped their parents in the fields and do i need to tell the educational infrastructure and facilities available in a VILLAGE...
You will never argue with your father on this point if you understand what I want to say...
It really hurts when you don't get admission in DU even after scoring 79% but your friend with 54% get admission in evening collage... i have felt this pain... reservation is a devil in our society and it should end... cast based reservation should be replaced with financial status based reservation...

Tax free income... as i told you, most of the farmers are marginal farmers... Even I recommend to tax agricultural income post 10,00,000 (profit)... i have seen several government employees, politicians, businessmen and black marketeers, hiding their ill-gotten money under the shroud of FARM INCOME... I agree with you on this point... this area need a huge revamp...

In last two financial years, our farm income exceeded our business income... and that was tax free too... :)

In Pakistan being a landowner in rural areas is a huge sign of respect, lol, we landowners see people who dont own land in their villages as people without roots.

It is same in India... but there are few who feel ashamed of being a farmer... specially after moving into cities for doing JOB... Whenever, someone tried to laugh at me for being from village... I used to tell them that we have kitchen which is bigger than your flat...
