Actually a fair amount of Israeli weapon industry has been home grown. Israelis were fielding and had trust in their own Python-I and II when they had first/second gen sidewinders. During Arab-Israel conflicts IAF pilots preferred Python over Sidewinder due to its better performance.

Israel has masterfully stolen the technology from the west. In order to build something like Python 5 or integrate your own electronics in F-16Is, you need a fairly good level of technical know how. Israel gathered that slowly over the decades by cozying up to the west. And the Germans and French as well as US turned a blind eye, because Israel always had that loser victim card to play. They are smart, but above all very clever.

AFAIK the darters are for Mirage ROSE and F-7PG (GrifoS)
