According this news most were criminals and not terrorists. But now that Taliban has helped them escape even the petty criminals might joined their ranks.

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: As many as 243 prisoners escaped as militants carrying heavy weapons stormed Dera Ismail Khan’s Central Jail, holding as many as 5000 prisoners including 250 inmates belonging to various banned outfits here on late Monday night, Geo News reported.

DI Khan Commissioner Mushtaq Jadoon said 243 prisoners including 30 militants escaped. However, police arrested six of them during the operation. Police said five suicide bombers were killed by security forces.

The attack on the hundred-year-old detention facility was blamed on weak security arrangements where inmates belonging to various banned organizations were held.

Nine people including six policemen were killed and 14 others injured in the audacious attack while four prisoners were also killed by security forces.

A curfew was clamped in the area after the militant engaged the security forces in gunfight. The area plunged into darkness as the attackers destroyed electricity transformers. Officials said that the curfew was imposed to avoid any damage to public.

Hundreds of militants including Adnan Rasheed, a key Taliban figure involved in a life attempt on former military ruler Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf were also freed in a similar attack in Bannu by Taliban insurgents last year.

Police and security forces rushed to the detention facility and cordoned off the area as militants attacked the prison with heavy weapons including mortars.

According to reports gun shots and almost 60 explosions were heard inside the prison.
DIG Prisons Khalid Abbas said that the Pakistan Army was called in after militant attack. He said that as many as 5000 prisoners including 250 belonging to banned outfits were held in the jail.

The proscribed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack and said that over 100 militants, including suicide bombers took part in the attack.

Its interesting to note that 3 inmates escaped from this very prison just couple of days back. They must have passed on the "inside information" to the Taliban.

Very troubling ....150 terrorists, few dozen car bombs with explosives and RPG's ....working in perfect unison and coordination they go in free inmates and most of them leave before the early morning hours .... Unfortunately, we have seen in these type of attacks, the terrorists are usually right and the government and Army lie. Same was the case in Bannu!

At the start Talibs said 300 escaped (estimate I think). Govt sources said 0 escapes, Army has surrounded prison. Then govt said 6 recaptured. Then they said they don't really know how many escaped but put estimate at 40. Now they say 243 but only 40 were militants! Jokers

The TTP were so organized, they used loudspeakers to call out the names of the prisoners they wanted! They also had time to BEHEAD/Kill 4 shia prisoners. They also set up road blocks and attacked reinforcements coming in!

That's what I call committment. Seems like they really care about their comrades! A video surfaced after Bannu in which Adnan Rashid pledged that WE WILL ATTACK MORE PRISONS AND GET OUR MEN RELEASED!!

Apparently, the hostages they have (Son of Mr Taseer and Ex-PM Gillani), the TTP demanded men to be released. ISI said NEVER. ISI offered HUGE SUMS OF MONEY (4 billion rupees from some sources) but said we will NOT release any man. Thats why there is still a deadlock on them.. But TTP has found other ways!

Its a shame after shame.. OBL, BANNU and NOW DI KHAN.. Whats next?
