Dhaka wants to restore 1972 constitution

Sheikh Hasina's Awami League party won a landslide victory in general elections last week that were hailed as "free and fair" by independent observers, ending two years of army-backed government.

hahaha, are you that clueless? Of course you are, you're from UK. The election was rigged. AL agreed to the Army's orders while BNP refused the military orders. If you got to some districts in BD and ask people around, they'll tell you that they wonder why BNP didn't win their districts even though they are hard core supporters of BNP.

You are keeping army,AL,election commission, neutral observers, people who elected their representatives on one side and arguing about it ..If you are right then God should help bangladesh

I need few more information regarding this issue as it came to front line all the time. In my entire life I never seen any person known to me just disappeared to India or never seen anybody who said he is going to India for luck searching. I never visited in north west part of Bangladesh and I know that part is kinda poor like west bengal side. So I have little knowledge whether those people do cross the border or not. I have so many neighbor who live in West as well as live in middle east and far east. I see them and their family everyday. But why cant I see a single family who said any of their member gone to india??? very very very strange..

I think Bangladeshi census and population figures are a good way to measure the migration to India. I believe it is used by some people to approximate the migration.

Bangladesh had more population than the Western Pakistan till 1971. I am not sure if and how significant is the difference in birth and population growth rates but now Bangladesh is significantly less.

I am not sure how much of it can be accounted for by this illegal immigration phenomenon. I would think most of it.

This is one most grotesque theory one can invent. Only in india where news propaganda about migration and all are bought and coerce by indian govt, then consumed by billion.

Well brother i have personally seen the effects in ASSAM.. The locals are really angry about these immigrants..!! But i dont know what propoganda you are talking about..?? what is the gain for india by propogating about migrants?????:tsk: Things have come to a level.. that even if a cat dies in bangladesh you are gonna blame RAW and India..!!!:tsk:

india has NO right to interfere and manipulate to decide what govt is elected in Bangladesh (friendly or not). Thats exclusively right of Bangladeshis. But what india is doing is bullying, interfering and flexing its hegemonic muscle.

Ofcourse BD has full rights to chose whomever they wish. However, they have no right to create troubles for India by joing hands with othere enemies. Simple.. Till they mind their business we have no problem.

Well in 1971 the population was 700 million, which is now 1400 million. It did not go down but gone up double. BD has the lowest population growth rate than PK an India. Its not only the population growth rate also child/mom, infant mortality, death at birth all are better than IND or Pak. Also we have 7/8% of people living overseas.

Govt to form expert body to review constitution
The government has decided to constitute a high-powered expert committee for a thorough review of the constitution, said a senior minister.

The decision came from the yesterday's cabinet meeting held at the Secretariat with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

“The committee will be formed to enrich and update the constitution by bringing about amendments to it,” Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister GM Quader told The Daily Star at his office yesterday.

He said the committee will come into being very soon. Persons having vast knowledge about constitution and legal affairs will be included in the committee, he added.

Bangladesh adopted its constitution in 1972 and the 4 basic principles were enshrined in it: secularism, nationalism, democracy and socialism. A total of 14 amendments have been brought to it.

After the assassination of Bangabanadhu along with his family members in 1975, Awami League (AL) sat at the helm of the state power for the first time in 1996 but they lacked the two-third majority, an essential prerequisite to amend the constitution.

AL, one of the major political parties alone secured nearly three-fourth parliamentary seats this time in the December 29 election. “Now we can amend the constitution,” said another minister, seeking anonymity.

A day after oath-taking as Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Barrister Shafique Ahmed announced he would take steps to restore the 1972 Constitution in order to inject the spirit of secularism, liberation war, rule of law and democracy into the mindset of the people of the country.

Another development, Govt does not need to amend the constitution to go back to secular constitution.
Supreme court, just started to work on Leave to Appeal hearing soon on 5th amendment. 5th amendment and Zias rule was declared illegal few years back and were waiting for leave to appeal hearing.

People who call themself muslim yet they want to discard Islam for the highest low of the land. I have serious doubt about their faith in Islam and I find it extremly difficult to call them Muslim. Munafiq is the better suited word for them half baked so call secular Muslim. I guess these so called muslim doesn't know that "A believer can never be a secular".

Are you the deciding authority for that?

Who certifies whether one is a Muslim, Hindu, Christian, Sikh or an atheist? Some self righteous hypocrite!

. . .
Calling yourself Bangali first and Muslim only second is a Musriki concept. These Musrik should cange their name and join their cow warshiping brothers as they are claiming to be same people.
