What's new

Dhaka more expensive than many South Asian cities: EIU

I have seen some video on Kolkata new town including this one and thought, this is the only part of Kolkata along with salt lake city which is comparable to Dhaka in development. Other places of Kolkata looks like times stand still in 1950s.
LOL comparable to Dhaka? I challenge you to post videos showing similar level of development in Dhaka...no drone shots please.

The only thing stuck in 1950s is Bangaldeshis mind :lol: Like all other cities of India, Kolkata has also developed with time....it is just not better marketed like Mumbai, Bangalore etc

.
So where is the construction of all this infrastructure like elevated expressways and ring roads going to start to be completed by 2021?

DPRs are under preparation. The deadline for Bharatmala Phase I is 2022...

BTW is your Dhaka Chittagong highway project complete yet ?

Least livable city 'development' ? :lol:

Yes.

Lol Stop this crap that Kolkata can be by 2021 what Dhaka plans by 2035. Not possible in 3/4 years. Could be possible by 2030 though. Dhaka infrastructure 2035 will be up there with any city in the world.
Anyway Dhaka is a huge megacity and so not comparable to small city like Kolkata.

. . .
Then accept my sympathy.Hope one day, you guys will be able to walk with your head high.
From a famous Kolkata poet:-
Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high;
Where knowledge is free;
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments;
By narrow domestic walls;
Where words come out from the depth of truth;
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection;
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way;
Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit;
Where the mind is led forward by thee;
Into ever-widening thought and action;
Into that heaven of freedom, My Father, let my country awake.

Man, even Rajshahi has got wider and broader streets than this one. And the lightning could be seen in the residential areas of even district towns in Bangladesh during the wedding occasions. @Homo Sapiens

I wish Kolkata and West Bengal the very best but this silly comparison is now getting annoying. Kolkata is noway near Dhaka or Chittagong. You should compare Kolkata with similar cities like Guwahati or Agartala as it would make more sense.

.
Man, even Rajshahi has got wider and broader streets than this one.

Sure...now your backwater town is better. Meanwhile in your capital...

WB: Dhaka’s average traffic speed 7kmph

And that's when your per capita car/motorcycle ownership is as low as it can ever be !!! :lol:... 1/120th & 1/70 the that of India respectively.

Shows how 'wide' your roads are.

Kolkata is noway near Dhaka or Chittagong.

Sure, it's nowhere near as it is class above- a bigger GDP, better infrastructure & more important than some backwater town in an LDC swamp...

We have all been to Kolkata - mairi bolcchee!!

Dude WTF ?! Kolkata has its charms but c'mon, stop this d*ck measuring.

Have you EVER been to Dhaka? :lol::lol:

Here's a few shots to whet your appetite, these are mostly older suburbs of Dhaka dating from the 1950's except the first few shots. Newer planned suburbs of Dhaka will be far larger in scale than whatever Newtown in Kolkata will ever be. But that doesn't diminish our love for Kolkata, it is what it is, warts and all. You obviously don't hang out in architecture or urban development circles.

The type and scale of apartments and condo units available in Dhaka are also something else. You are comparing a capital of a sovereign nation with a regional city. It's an unfair comparison. Let me give you some examples.

South Breeze is one of the premier architects and builders in Dhaka. A personal favorite - their mid-priced properties are executed with a richness of vision, appropriateness of proportion and a humble understated aesthetic finesse that I feel truly proud to have them as architects in my city. They are the signature Bangladeshi architects.

As a result of what can only be termed as utter desperation, bilal shamelessly posts others’ photos without giving due credit. Typical. :disagree:

But seriously... posting pics of tacky residential interiors with fake chesterfield couches and ugly as sin nouveau riche materials that only an aesthetically challenged Arab would like?! Hilarious!
