Details of some ToT's that are being negotiated in India's MMRCA program

The TOT is a total waste for India as India is not able to absorb the technology. India may reproduce the component but not able to improve upon it.

TOT is useless??? Astra microwave got Tot for AESA for LRTR. now the T/R modules they make are better than the ones supplied by Israel. and they developed 1/8 size of what they supplied and so on... just an example. see the 100's of SME's present at AI-13 who got part of Tot's and their evolution then you will understand.

Sir, don't waste your time- some people will attack India on every level they don't let things like "FACTS" get in the way!

Thats y they have JF-17 squadren in air against ur soon too  be inducted super stealth tejas LOL ... U R Not third world country man ..... still poor people eat RATS in dinner to get over their hunger in india ... yes u r super power   :flame:
Eat rats and live, not be deluded to blow themselves up for some money that won't reach them ever.
Pakistani cheerleaders do so much to praise their masters,Chinese.
Painters don't have anything to boast off :D

No buddy we are able to do that and u will soon see more of such examples.

Guy you remind me of something here....Titanium is very tough to forge. And it has its own history when SR-71 Blackbird was to be made by skunk works.

Interesting story. CIA fooled Soviets into buying Titanium through some front companies:

https://www.cia.gov/library/center-.../breaking-through-technological-barriers.html

I've read that story in some book when USSR being the biggest producer of Titanium was fooled into selling Titanium to Lokheed Martin's Skunk works. Blackbird was (& perhaps to date still is) one of the greatest work of Kelly Johnson and used Titanium on a massive scale owing to extremely high temperatures during Mach 3.0+ flights. Today it almost feels like reading one of thriller novels.

I thought the tractor company story was enough to educate the parrots repeating the Shuppa powwa song , which they picked up from the elders who use it as slogan to hide their insecurities.

Sir, Heres another story that i'm posting for two reasons, first it involves a Government PSU and second it involves a technology that very few people master and even fewer have capability to manufacture.

Indian Railways Newest and most powerful Diesel Locomotive WDG 5

New WDG 5 locomotive
New WDG5 locomotive design finalised
Lucknow, Sep 16 : Indian Railways and Electro-Motive Diesel Inc (EMD), one of the leading global locomotive manufacturers, today announced the final design of the new WDG-5 locomotive.

In a landmark achievement for the Railways, a complete high horsepower locomotive design has been completed by Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) and Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW) of the Railways with the support of EMD.

This diesel locomotive has an output of 5500 bhp, which makes it the strongest diesel locomotive ever run on the Indian rail network.

In combination with its record high tractive effort of 560 KN, it can pull significantly more load at higher speeds, thus enabling the Railways to increase the system in the rail network.

Mr Sanjiv Handa, Member Mechanical, Railway Board, Indian Railways, said, ''The partnership between Indian Railways and EMD has brought the latest diesel locomotive technology to India.

WDG5 is the latest outcome of this association, where RDSO, DLW and EMD have jointly worked and come out with a state-of-art locomotive design which will prove to be the most versatile and powerful diesel locomotive, capable of running on existing tracks on Indian Railways.''

While doubters can always dismiss Indian industry as Incapable to absorb new technologies, the truth is altogether different. India has not only capability to absorb a technology but also tailor it to suit its requirement.

Heard somewhere

Knowledge is knowing that Tomato is a Fruit
Wisdom is not to use Tomato in a Fruit Salad

Poor analogy but i guess in context of the debate going on explains the difference between Copying and understanding (albeit by paying for it aka ToT) a technology

So you use a train diesel engine as an example of how India can absorb new technologies and develop new ones. Please share this with the developers of LCA and Kaveri as they have get the memo that they care capable of creating a new jet engine because India can develop new train diesel engine. You are given a perfect example of Indian logic that people from other countries will not be able to comprehend as you seem to exist in another dimension.

Dear Senior Member,
An Advanced Jet fighter and a humble Diesel engine are as different as Chalk and Cheese. I don't intend to prove that a diesel engine manufacturing qualifies in same league as an advanced jet. But you must appreciate the fact for a country that was about 12 years back using DC-DC traction technology for its diesel motive power, has done well to import technology (again from EMD in the case) in form of WDG 4 (4000 HP) engines and again modify them to suit Indian conditions.
We are not taking any credit for original R&D but the manufacturing units have adapted themselves to manufacture Mechanical parts, Traction motors and Electronics domestically.
When a technology transfer takes place for example Rafale, the industry supporting the manufacturing campaign would learn a great deal. And when the last rafale would have rolled out, technologies transferred would have percolated and who knows what new could come out.

The simple fact is India is far,FAR ahead of Pakistan in this area. To even compare India and Pakistan on the aerospace front is laughable. Pakistan neither has the finances, economy, skilled manpower, pvt sector entities, govt backing, ambition, know-how or alliances to be able to grow into a major aerospace hub for the foreseeable future.

Like I said, comparing India to Pakistan is laughable.

Total indigenisation of Sukhoi next year: HAL

MOSCOW: The first fully indigenous Su-30MKI fighter plane will roll off Indian assembly lines in 2010, a top executive at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited said on Wednesday.

“Next year, HAL will achieve 100 per cent indigenisation of the Sukhoi aircraft — from the production of raw materials to the final plane assembly,” V. Balakrishnan, general manager, Aircraft Manufacturing Division, told The Hindu here.

A five-member HAL delegation is taking part in MAKS-2009, Russia’s international air show now under way here.

Out of the 230 Su-30MKI air superiority multirole fighters the Indian Air Force plans to induct by 2015, 140 aircraft are to be built in India. License production began in 2004, with the first planes assembled from knockdown kits supplied by Russia. The programme provided for a gradual increase in the number of parts and components produced locally.

Last year, HAL mastered the manufacture of the wing and the tail. This year, it started producing the fuselage and raw materials, Mr. Balakrishnan said. The final and most challenging phase involved the indigenous manufacture of the engine.

“We’re currently testing the locally produced engine for the Su-30MKI and are planning to launch its production in 2010.” HAL would manufacture 60 Su-30MKI fighters in the full production cycle till 2015, he said.

India also plans to sign an inter-governmental agreement (IGA) with Russia for supply of HAL-manufactured Sukhoi airframes for third countries. It is already supplying some avionics equipment for Sukhoi aircraft Russia is building for third countries.

Later this year, India and Russia would sign a design accord for a fifth generation fighter aircraft they agreed to build jointly in 2007. India would be responsible for the manufacture of composite-material parts of the airframe, avionics and software packages, Mr. Balakrishnan said.

The Russian single-seat version of the fifth generation fighter plane is expected to make its maiden flight in the coming winter. India will induct a twin-seat version.

And it is already done, the MKI is fully Indian made now.

Its 2009 article though...
