Soviets never gave attention to crew safety or comfort.

I don't know whether it's the right place to talk about some very serious weakness in Arjun designe or not,but the weak spots in existing MkIs are too grim to make it a viable frontline main battle tank!!

there is no harm in talking here, we all know the flaws in MBT-Arjun and it has been discussed zillions of time in India and International forums. Even DRDO came up with 20+ improvements/modification to try to make the project viable.

once its a mistake, second time its blunder and third time.......

there are a few things its a mixed bag

Positive

1.we created all the required R&D and production facilities and upgraded the older ones despite the puny finances and corrupt babus and genrals looking for there cut in defence deals

2.though it looks owtdated and too bulki it still packs a very very deadli punch and can hold its ground in front of anything that is on battle sceanario in south asia in present and near future

negetives

1.even after almost two decades we still are not at the level of sophestication as comapred to americans russians , british , french and germans its still not using the slped armour to that extend as western and russian platforms are using

2.it is still over wieght at least by 5 tons we need drastik cuts there without compromising on leathelity and crew protection

3.it is taking way too much time and mass production at the level of western or russian,s despite we are having such a big pool of engeeniers and production staff

why cant we do it ...i guess we need to revisit owr priorities and start with some accountability if russians and chinese can do despite they are also state owned why cant we should owtsource many components to private industry like they do for automobile production

as for chinese makin fun well they are sucsessful and we should learn from them but pakistanies makin fun of owr project when they cant design a proper mobike or a car nor can cater to there industries and just essemble chinese & ukraniean kits while just contribeuting the hull it is hillarious there jealousi is epik

in the end good job till now and now instead of boasting we should go whole hog and show owr mettle to the world and indians alike and make them proud

We can do it. We need some fundamental changes. More investment in our educational centers. We need to stop folowing the West, and need to rediscover what made India great. We had the biggest library in the world thanks to the Buddhists. Our maths has been superior for centuries. Let me give two examples. That Math wiz from Bihar (Super 30) should be given a position that helps our educational system. Using tech, have him come up with a plan or a course that would make our educational system superior. I refernced tech because it would allow anyone in India to gain access to quality education. The other example is Khan Academy. Check it out online and you will understand why its a great tool. He is a NRI investor banker in California who has come up with a revolutionary way of educating our young ppl. The need of the hour is a gov't back program (free of corruption) that promotes a tablet to every kid (like the Akash Tablet perhaps better). This itself would create an educational software industry in India. We talk about job creation but this is a opportunity in a lifetime to project India forward. Why should we work in call centers only? Don;t you think if every family had a smartphone in India, the app industry could proflierate and grow exponentially? I think the apps could truly help ppl of various background in India. A farmer, a student, etc. The opportunities are endless.

We need to realize that Western countries don;t want re emerging powers to come back to the world platform.

All the countries you mentioned except China and Russia are allies to various degrees and historical ties going back centuries. They have no problems sharing tech. There are no barriers to their success. Are you aware these countries handpick our greatest talent in India and then offer them salaries that nobody can compete against? Those talented ppl go abroad and make patents for their host countries. My uncle is one of them. He is a PHD in Physics. He has made many patents in Nanoscience in the US.

Building a tank from near scratch is quite difficult. Nobody will aid us willingly. Therefore, sometimes we need to adopt Chanukya tactics like China and Russia. We live in a world where spying and stealing of info is the norm. Why arent we more part of it? When we built of our first supercomputer, it was herculean task. Our scientists did not know where to start. But they did and learned from their mistakes. We need to have parallel programs one indigenous and one reverse engineering. We need to take the best from everyone and incorporate our best. China builds numerous models and decide which will go ahead or stop at a prototype stage. By doing so, we would be able to see what features have shown promise. Competition always brings out the best in ppl. There should be contests in DRDO or between research univ more often. More science fairs. Maybe create a list of problems in the world or problems in India, so it would create a creative buzz in our minds.

Just my thought process.

Have you or anyone else ever thought about why Israelis have decided to accept the Bnei Menashe are a group of more than 9,000 people from the northeastern Indian states of Mizoram and Manipur who practice a form of biblical Judaism and claim descent from one of the Lost Tribes of Israel. Many were converted to Christianity and were originally headhunters and animists at the beginning of the 20th century, but began converting to Judaism in the 1970s. ISrael is very smart it leverages her ppl like no other. The fact they have citizens from almost every culture allows them to infiltrate closed societies with ease. These northeasterners of India would provide an opportunity for them to infiltrate China and surrounding areas. Im not saying that is the reason behind such activities but it does bring up an interesting question? Why aren;t we doing the same? India is very diverse. We need to really start thinking of every way to get ahead. Even the Muslims Empires of long ago would kidnap white Europeans to use in their armies and as spies. They also had Asians and Africans in their ranks. Think about it.

your right mate in almost all your post we are getting there and very soon will be there but the thing what is owr biggest drawback is Owr sab chalta hai attitude

.
can you tell me what type of round it was? APFSDS, HEAT or HE-FRAG?

Thanks

the Russian Tank T-72 imported by Indian Army could not penetrate the Kanchan Armor protected Arjun Tank , with APFDS at point blank range.
As a side note, in January 2000 at Proof & Experimental Establishment (PXE), Balasore, Arjun tank armor defeated all available HESH and FSAPDS rounds including Israeli FSAPDS rounds.
needs confirmation......

.
Just one question, why does not the Arjun MK1 use sloped armor to increase effective armor thickness ???
This is not a secret since WW2....
