What's new

Death toll from deadly heatwave crosses 700!

Main contributing factor is lack of electricity. If there were some cooling centers open by the govt the death toll would have never been this high, regardless of the temperatures. But obviously that's asking way too much from these corrupt and selfish "rulers." That's right, I won't call them leaders anymore. They are rulers who rule this nation with utter cruelty.

If there was a 24hrs, of uninterrupted power delivered to public it would have helped greatly during these sweltering hot days. People could have turned water coolers on, placed ice blocks in front of it, and survived through the day.

But God what a sad state of affairs this nation is. Public really is nothing but some low forms to these rulers.

They do. See a long history of heat strokes in Europe, the worst being in 2003
2003 European heat wave - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"analysis places the European death toll at more than 70,000"

Europe had a heavy aversion towards air conditioning. It was pretty uncommon.
After 2003 they started questioning their mindset.

Europe Decides Air-Conditioning Is Not So Evil - NYTimes.com
"In the United States, almost three of every four homes has some kind of air-conditioning. In Europe, people have traditionally just slowed down and baked in summer."

Sure Europe has Air-Conditioning. It’s Called ‘Open The Window’ | European Focus
"A/C, just one of the hundreds of things that Americans take for granted. Sort of like 24 hour a day shopping, 389 channels on the TV, a grocery store on every corner and cheap gas. In Europe, A/C is just not available. Wait, in the cars. Then it’s available. But in offices, shopping centers, hotels, restaurants and most public and private places, no A/C. What, are the Europeans just gluttons for punishment? No, they are just very slow to change. Glacially slow. And climate change, while very real, has not caused a shift in their inbred distaste for artificially cooled air."

He was not just a Shia. He was in fact an Ismaili. A minority community, that has contributed so much for Pakistan since its birth, unlike these Sunni majority freaks!
Hold your dirty tongue these freaks were all men under his command and there is no command without followers and about religious matters MA Jinnah never spoke,on some occasion he just said he is a plain Muslim.

Have to put religion in every argument, eh?

This is all b/c of global warming which i must admit has been seeded by us human themselves.

n Karachi, electricity shortages crippled the water supply system, hampering the pumping of millions of gallons of water to consumers, the state-run water utility said.

Despite the increasing number of deaths being reported in the provincial capital, neither government officials nor any other organisation has made any arrangements for collecting and collating the data of the death toll.

Blame it on anything except the politicians and how perfectly they run the nation with 80%+ efficiency. There something called planning for present and the future but for that there should be minds faithful to the nation to think.

Met Office said temperatures hit 43 Celsius in Karachi

There are countries where temperatures are between 45-50+ almost every day but we do not see such conditions.

RIP!!!

The news that health emergency had been declared in Karachi was shocking since a Pakistani friend told me that hot weather in the port city was not unusual.

@levina i forgot what temperature you said was in your region in the gulf and there was one saudi member who also gave his region's temperature... this was in the "india heat-wave deaths" thread.
51 degrees, but this place is well equipped to face such high temperatures.

The real problem is load-shedding and lack of water, distribution and theft a huge problem. Proper management can to some extent control this problem. Hub dam has been exhausted, source of water for Karachi. It was all expected, no proper measure being taken. Provincial government is incompetent and completely useless.
RIP, may god help us.

Karachi is a coastal city..air coolers won't work there..only rich can afford air conditioners...poor have no option but to suffer....imagine a coastal with extreme heat waves+humidity...oh god that's hell of a torture.on top of that it is ramzan

.
ah.

i too don't sweat heavily.

the shalwar-kameez de facto national males dress obviously didn't help... besides, i find it shabby.

woo... that's third-world proportions.

true.

ah, the famous load-shedding... very south asian.
So there isn't much use in having inexpensive evaporative coolers in non coastal areas as you have excessive power cuts..thank god we dont have such grave problems
