Surjit Bhalla was amongst the most pro Modi commentators during the elections, his dejection at some of the governments's (ministers/allied organisations) actions should be taken seriously. Sure, there will be many BJP/RSS/Modi/Hindutva supporters who will cheer on regardless & make caustic comments about any such voices but it's best to remember that there were probably some equally vociferous Congress supporters who cheered on & made similar remarks as the Congress slowly walked to its electoral grave.

Excellent closing argument.
bravo.

It's not about Sanskrit per se, it's more about the skewed priorities of the government. No one elected Modi because they worried about Sanskrit etc, the focus should have been laser like on the economy & governance issues. Instead the government is spending all its time firefighting because of some nonsense spouted by some minister or by some organisations connected to the BJP. Take this session of parliament for example, first you lose many days becase of reaction to Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti's comments which meant the PM was expending his political capital on some pointless subject instead of on some economic decisions. Now Parliament is again in uproar over the conversions issue. While a lot of this is normal opposition tactics (the BJP did pretty much the same), the government is foolishly giving them wood to fan the fire. Economic decisions are still going nowhere and a massive mandate is slowly being wasted & undermined. Absolutely unnecessary.

I disagree. Sab apne apne kaam kar rhe hain.

This was not a priority or anything at all anyway. The pre 2011 arrangement is being brought back. If the 'other' make ruckus about it, BJP can't be blamed.

Finally, I don't represent the BJP in any capacity.

No, I thought you don't like it because you know about it, ergo an informed decision. All languages (including computer languages) need to be learnt first. Only then can we state that Java sks and C rocks. Or vice versa. Without knowing them, one can safely say like jamahir that Computer specialists are useless and computer languages serve no purpose.

Now you claim that Sanskrit serves no purpose. Now let me see from Google Search's first page...wait....

Sanskrit does not look dead to me. :D

Resurructing Sanskrit is just as good as resurrecting Latin. Like I said I am ok with Sanskrit being taught but am acutely aware that it is had zero utlity for me in practical terms- I have not looked at a single Sanskrit text after 10th grade and don't remember anything. Tellingly when I got a job, I decided I'll try to join Sanskrit Prachar Sabha and pick it up again out of a sense of duty. Guess what in 1 week when I realized I couldn't really keep the timings I let go off the whole thing- job is more important. I put in a more determined effort to learn german during my post grad days coz of a vague idea that I may be able to use it. That's the reality.

Ok, but that's what you feel. Sanskrit remains an optional third language for only 68000 students. In most states schools teach Hindi as a third language instead of Sanskrit.

I don't think Hindi is that optional. It was English + Hindi/ Regional (in state schools). In KV - English + Hindi +Sanskrit (4 years) when I was in school. I guess Sanskrit/ German might have been given later. But all of this was pointless. I learnt all my English from English movies and Hindi from Bollywood movies, Tamil from Tam movies and Mallu from mallu movies actually . In fact I'm thinking of watching lots of german movies.

Yes, it depends on the school actually. Like I learnt English and Hindi and Kashmiri with the Sharda script while Muslims studied with the Nastaliq script(yes we have separate curiculla!). Some Hindi speaking states chose English + Hindi +optionally Sanskrit.

Don't miss -
Der Untergang
Das Experiment
Im Juli
Baader Meinhof Komplex
Munich
Das Leben der Andern

I've already seen Der Untergang :). One of my all time favorite movies!

The problem is its being made compulsory for KV schools:mad:
Nope.

If you take a third language
and if the school chooses so
and if Hindi is not the third language
and if the school insists on teaching a third language
then
Sanskrit is going to be taught.

68000 students are affected by this. Not all KV students(million plus).
For example In Karnataka, a KV school will study English, Kannada, Hindi depending on the school's decision.
