Counter-MMRCA Strategy of PAF

RBE2 is PESA radar. There is no AESA radar in rafale. Just there is planning of RBE2AAA Which should be AESA but currently There is no existence of AESA radar in Rafale.
.
.
Really, RBE-2 is pesa, then i think Thales engeneers and scientists must be on pot or boose while researching on this RBE-2 AESA, and writing about it on their official page.

RBE2AA is tested on mirage2000 and planned for Rafale.
After only 3 years, In 2015 you are getting 18 rafale. I doubt this will contain AESA. It may be PESA radar RBE2.

I think that is a Rafale fitted with AESA.

Thales AESA RBE2 radar validated on Rafale - Thales Group

Thales has announced that the production model AESA RBE2 radar with active electronically scanned array antenna has been validated on the Rafale omnirole combat aircraft. Following a comprehensive programme of flight tests conducted between September and December 2010 with the AESA RBE2 on the Rafale, Dassault Aviation confirmed that all aspects of the radar’s performance comply with the technical specifications of the ‘Roadmap’ contract, awarded by the French defence procurement agency (DGA).

The success of this test campaign is a further endorsement of Thales’s European leadership in airborne radar.

This latest major milestone confirms the AESA RBE2 radar’s high level of maturity. The AESA RBE2 with active array will give the Rafale a number of key advantages:

Extended range for compatibility with the latest generation long range missiles and ability to detect low-signature targets
Higher module reliability for reduced cost of ownership (no maintenance required on the active array for 10 years)
Extended waveform agility, making it possible to acquire submetric synthetic aperture (SAR) imagery while increasing the radar’s resistance to jamming

With the AESA RBE2’s performance now validated, in line with the contract schedule, Thales will begin series production of equipment for installation on the aircraft under Tranche 4 of the Rafale programme. The Tranche 4 aircraft were ordered by the DGA in 2009 and will be delivered by Dassault Aviation to the French Air Force from 2013.

The Rafale will then become the only European combat aircraft to benefit from the operational advantages of AESA radar technology. The Rafale’s undisputed superiority is recognised around the world and is a key differentiator in today’s highly competitive markets.

AESA is started in production phase... were u out of any info in last 3 years or is it wishful thinking???

Thanks for the heads up! A very exhaustive and excellent piece of info!

However, I would like to add that the author has not mentioned the 250 - 300 fifth generation Sukhoi T-50s that would be inducted into the IAF by 2016-17. That would be a game changer. I wonder what PAF's strategy would then be for countering the threat? I believe that the PAF would probably induct 2-3 squadrons of the Chinese J-20, though not before 2020.

But hey! There's gonna be no all out war in the future. Times have changed. Geopolitics have changed. The world has changed! These high tech toys are merely for deterrence. Counter insurgency and counter terror warfare is the future. Weaponology is undergoing a change to cater to this type of warfare.

Cheers!

thats beyond the scope of the subject. which is about countering MMRCA . so bringing in 5th Gen, the Brahmos and the like is only going to drag the discussion off topic.

so request to posters to keep the nukes, bravado and the length of manhood off the discussion otherwise such posts will be deleted

Can PAF acquire another 18 Block 52 F-16s?? Because we need at least 80 F-16s along with J-10b and thunders to face Rafales and Mig-29s.

Just see my post above your this post and see the 2nd link which state the validity of aesa on Rafale, and Indian intial order 18 rafale will be off the self with full load of aesa and senser suit.

did you read the opening post?

It was never my intent to troll - if my post contains some offensive material then please inform me so I can edit it.
The article clearly states that the PAF will get 150 JF 17 by 2020 but in every other JF 17 thread relating this subject members have posted of numbers 250 regularly and some have even said 350 - I think its important to find out exactly what is the final number that PAF is going to induct.

your post is fine, quoting you didnt mean my post was directed to you hence I used the word "all members"

re your ending statement, as long as the decision is not finalized, the number will remain speculative. if it is made public then we will know, until then we have to live with whatever we have on the web and make our informed judgement. note that this website is not an official website or media centre of PAF all of us are defense enthusiasts.

Yes sir i have read the opening post. An option was given to PAF back in 2005 that they can buy 36 Block 52 F-16s. We opted for 18 due various reasons. My question is that how much its the possibility for us to acquire 18 more in the current deteriorating relations with the US???

your question is qualified and in a way answers it self.

my take is, get the best mix of air+ ground based platforms + systems that the resources allow and that mix should be embargo proof. F-16s option has the big question mark over it depending on the mood swing of Uncle Sam. so that difference will be covered by J-10. better to have something which is a mystery t the world and by the way there is always a trade off

F-16. combat proven, super plane in its own right and class and of US origin (quality/ performance full stars) but an open book for any possible adversary and prone to embargo

J-10. unproven, no combat record and of Chinese origin who has to make its mark in the exclusive club of high tech fighter planes, but comes with all the must have goodies, has astonished the aeronautical world, received praise from critics & is a top talking point for anyone (good or degrading) who might be facing it. And the appeal to Pakistan is that customization to its specific needs is endless and is embargo proof.

Against the F-22.

In all these exercises PAF pilots have flown with the world’s highly advanced combat aircraft which include USAF’s F-15 & F-22, French Air Force’s Rafale, Italian Air Force’s Eurofighter-2000, UAEAF F-16 Block60 and Mirage-2000-9, RSAF F-15C, PLAAF Su-27SK and various blocks of F-16 from TUAF, RJAF and USAF. Apart from interaction with military aviation professionals, these exercises gave PAF the opportunity to learn from the experience of other fighting forces.

Few important points-

1}Its Su 30mki not Rafale which will be the mainstay for IAF till atleast 2030....

2}PaF will have around 260+ 4+Gen get by 2020...
150 Jf17+
50 J10B+
18 F16 Bl52+
44 F16 MLU

3}Their is no clearity of AESA in J10B and JF17 by 2020....[But i am expecting that atleast BL3 of Jf17 will have Aesa]

there is no pleasing some Indians. there was a specific thread on countering SU-30 MKI and people kept on bringing Rafale , Rafale, Rafele and Brahmos and what not. read the subject, the scope of the article is only about one aspect. the intention here is not to drown the reader by posting something that includes the strategy of countering IAF's PAK FA to what the IAF chefs in the officers mess will cook on India's republican day.

we are enthusiasts but our attention span is very limited hence we discuss one thing at a time

In my opinion PAF is a defensive force, as the size of Pakisthan Airspace 150 Jf17+50 J10B+18 F16 Bl52+44 F16 MLU with better SAM & Radar network it has been a good deterrent to any Airforce.

.
It's worth noting that with the exception of the J-10/FC-20, all other platforms and weapon systems are either deployed or current in the PAF inventory, the pilots and crews are already honing their skills to counter any future aggression.

the air force by its very name and nature is not entirely defensive but yes ifs Designs are not regional like IAF has with its bases in countries like Tajikistan.
