.
End of 1st Quarter

AUS 26 ENG 10

Not bad for Team England, but need to improve the shooting %. I like how England play the first 3 minutes, but then they started to drop the %FG

Second Quarter News

_Liz Cambage foul out in 2nd quarter (1 technical and 1 unsportman like foul)

Half time

AUS 49 ENG 31

Full Time

AUS 99 : ENG : 55

Congrat on the Opal, but my hat tipped to Team England, I think this is not a bad game at all to them.

Naturally, since swimming and cycling have like dozens of events for no reason. It's shameful tbqh. : p

But is it actually fair what you said?

Australia is not the country who dictate which sport was in the Commonwealth Game and which sport is not. The game like this now (with 50 swimming medal) not because Australia said "Hey we are good at swimming, why not we have all the swimming event"

There are equal chance for India or any country to develop water based athletes, I mean nothing in India is hindering the development of swimming sport, right? Then you would have equal chance (in fact more because there are more Indian than Australian in total) in these event.

By the way, Aussie have other good athletes other than swimming. And if we take away cycling and swimming, Aussie still leave with 30 gold medal, which is still more than India.

No harm losing to our little brother. :o::angry:

Aussie rank 1 at 72 Gold
England rank 2 at 40 Gold
India rank 3 at 24 gold.

Jesus we have more gold than UK and India combine...

We've had a bad games, especially off the back of a record breaking Olympics 2 years ago.
The UK collectively haas 59 gold bro.

By the way it's England v India for the heavyweight boxing final.

Actually, the host countries are given advantage. One of the "rationales" used is that if you're strong in something, you'll have more facilities for that sport, thus more events.

It's just a usual thing in these games. But this time it went a little too far. Imagine, near 60% of your Golds are from swimming and cycling!

There's no doubt that Australia has a better sporting environment than India.

I think England have a good come back in the second quarter, 23 : 21 if I remember correctly. And it's amazing how you guys force Liz Cambage out lol.......she is, or I should say was, our main scorer

Yeah, I was checking the last commonwealth game tally, I think you guys were robbed quite a few medal in cycling and swimming...But you guys didn't lost that much compare to Canada....

And I always forgot the 3 states ( or regions?) complete under a different entity...

Well played although 15 of your golds are in para sports and almost half of all medals in swimming.

There are equal chance for India or any country to develop water based athletes, I mean nothing in India is hindering the development of swimming sport, right? Then you would have equal chance (in fact more because there are more Indian than Australian in total) in these event.
Most of your cities are near sea and people spend a lot of time at beach. While here most of our population lives in land locked area. Given how its a matter of split seconds, with limited players pool and inadequate training compared to other countries in aquatics, cycling and gymnastics, we fail to win medals. We can only get better from here, and hopefully soon.

Swimming traditionally have a lot of different event, unless you don't include swimming in the aquatic field, you will have a lot of medal to decide on that.

But to say they please the host country is absurd, 2014 CWG have 44 swimming event. As oppose to 50 in this game, and Aussie did not win that 6 extra medal.

Again, every country can develop their own field, it is not just an Australian Privileged to be good at swimming, India can too, if you choose to develop your next generation athletes in this field.

Yes, in India 2010 we had much more shooting events. We actually had to drop few players who won gold in world championship this year just because they were only competing in just one event, due to the limitations of shooters participating in commonwealth games.

This is not a reason lol.....A lot of our swimming based athletes are based off the coast and born in the landlock part of this country too. But even if you live inland, you can still train with swimming pool and other places.

yes, it is in this country that people are quite water going (I can swim not I probably cannot swim to save my life) but I don't think this is anything that said we are good at this sport, there are recreational swimmers and there are professional swimmer, just because you like to hit the beach everyday does not mean you will get a medal

Yes, most Games are biased towards the West. So we always have an extraordinary number of swimming events and lack of eastern sports. I'm not blaming just Australia. But this time you did have more events.

Water Sports and cycling and such requires expensive infrastructure. So it's not right to say that any country can do it.
The right way is to give equal representation to all sports and add more eastern sports.

More than 70% of your Golds are from a swimming, cycling and athletics. But note that I didn't say that and instead said 60% are from swimming and cycling.
Because there's no excuse for athletics. Although it requires infra, it's markedly different from swimming and also involves very distinct events.

Australia spends more more capita on sports than other countries. They are really good in some of the toughest and most competitive sports in the world - Cricket, Hockey, Tennis. I think in tennis, they are only 2nd to the US in number of Davis Cups won. Forget sports that people only follow during some major event - Australia is great at a whole bunch of spectator sports - it is quite incredible given their small population.
