Pakistan moved closer to releasing an imprisoned doctor who had helped the CIA track Bin Laden after the country’s spy chief flew to the US to try to rescue intelligence ties between Washington and Islamabad, the Guardian reported.

The ISI chief, Lt-Gen Ahmed Shuja Pasha, flew to Washington on Wednesday to seek a patch up in relationship.

The official position towards Dr Shakil Afridi, the subject of weeks of negotiations between the countries, seemed to have softened as a senior Pakistani official said that he may not have known he was working for the CIA.

“If it is confirmed that [Afridi] did not deal with Americans and didn’t know he was working for the CIA, he didn’t break any laws,” the official said.

“He also did not spy on Pakistan or violate the official secrets act. So there may be no reason to charge him,” the official added.



Probably cover-up, pathetic! It is US want to release him, why is that? Raymond Davis, Shamsi Air Base, and now Dr.Afridi.

Recent reports of the CIA having used a local Doctor and a fake nurse to obtain DNA of OBL from the house in Abbottabad has threatened the real vaccination drive for Polio Eradication in the remote areas in Pakistan. Pakistan is currently the only country in the world where Polio cases have been detected primarily in the KP and some in Karachi (due to migrants from KP areas). These people who are predominantly illiterate generally miss out on the massively conducted polio eradication campaigns where polio drops are administered to small children all over Pakistan.

Unfortunately and now due to CIA's irresponsible approach this Polio Drive is now seriously threatened in these areas as the locals will use this incident to strengthen the beliefs that this drive is actually a fake promotion administered by the CIA to obtain DNA's from the locals and perhaps to make them impotent in some way.

UNICEF, Bill Gates and Rotary International that are the three chief organization and investors in the Polio Eradication Campaign have expressed serious concerns over CIA's stupidity that will now jeopardize the lives of thousands of children in Pakistan as their parents will out rightly refuse to have these drops administered.

Wow. Now impotency will be blamed on the Americans. "Dam them. They slipped something into my tea!"

The answer isn't hard to implement. Children go to school, correct? And oral polio vaccine can be administered by anybody. Line the children up and place a drop on each tongue.

Polio (like smallpox) is a ridiculously simple disease to prevent. And hopefully polio will one day be eradicated from humanity like smallpox. But it requires an effective organization to make it work.

It may have had NOTHING to do with Polio or any US govt drive there.
Probably OBL's wives or kids visited the guy or one of his colleagues and he blew the whistle on them.

Why not? The dropper can be used to scrape the buccal mucosa for an excellent sample the same time drops are delivered. A new dropper per baby, and everything can be tracked.
