KARACHI: A seven member team of eye surgeons, nurses and technicians will perform cataract surgeries upon patients in need and also insert lenses so as to restore their vision to optimum at Civil Hospital, Karachi from April 23 to 27.
Cataract Patients Operation by Chinese Ophthalmology is being initiated under Bright Light Programe offered by the Prime Minister of China, during his last visit to Pakistan.
It does not only include donation of Interocular Lens Implants (IOL) but is also supplemented by required logistical support and professional assistance by a team of of relevant medical professionals from China.
Facilitator for the program at ophthalmology department, Civil Hospital, Dr. Mohammad Munir Qureishi told APP Tuesday all government hospitals in Karachi have also been asked to refer their patients in need of cataract surgery so that optimum number of people may benefit.
In reply to a question he said adult patients who may undergo local anesthesia would be selected for the surgery and this would be done after prerequisite blood sugar, blood count and hepatitis profile.
Deputy Medical Superintendent, Civil Hospital, Karachi, Dr. Shakil Mullick giving further details of the program said the Chinese team of ophthalmologists has already arrived in the country and in the first phase would operate upon 250 patients at Mayo Hospital, Lahore from April 18 to 21.
