29 percent of patients are pakistani, may be their govt should invite apollo group to build a hospital in pakistan. That will save a lot of money and hassle.

Great job and well done to the doctors. Thank you India. Human sympathy and love should trump politics.

Both countries often pay lip service to people-people contact, without any deep effort to achieve that. This is one area where India can reach out to common Pakistanis, including the middle class. Many westerners come to India for affordable treatment, and India is trying to increase its medical tourism sector severalfold. I am guessing that Pakistanis can also be a good customer base, if people in the west can be. It can actually earn both countries a lot of goodwill. I remember the first Pakistani to have a major medical procedure (open heart surgery) in India was a 2 year old girl named Noor Fatima, and the PM Vajpayee personally visited her and made a witty wordplay about how she should be the guiding "noor" between the two countries. And this was just after the Kargil war and the 2001 standoff - even at the low point of geopolitical relations, saving the life of a little child was an endeavour that brought common people on both sides closer. When the armies of both countries were mobilied and standing in eyeball to eyeball confrontation with deep mistrust on the border, people on the streets on Bangalore lit candles and held placards urging the girl to get well soon. Many schools in the area held special prayers for her. Both countries ought to do whatever they are good at to earn the goodwill of the other - and IMO, meaningful activities like these goes much further in that, than silly flag meetings or high level delegations and chai-biscuit meetings of ministers and diplomats.

This is business for us, we dont need to show the humanitarian side, as it makes pakistanis cringe sometimes. Its the decision of hospital (a business entity) to decide who to give discount or do for free.

Unlike other businesses, this one has a face. The "customers" are directly touched and saved or healed. Unlike most other businesses, this one has the potential to generate goodwill, so why not make use of that? Goodwill can never be a bad thing, can it? If some people cringe at the humanitarian side of it, I would say their opinion is not that important. You can't do something to please everybody - whatever you do, it will make somebody unhappy. Most normal people would enthusiastically support saving the life of a little child, of whatever nationality or religion. Only a tiny minority would have problems with that. If our species should thrive, it is the majority opinion (in this case) that should be given credence, not the minority that cringes at the humanitarianism of saving a life.

its goodwill of an individual or family which benefitted but if we drum too much it might backfire on us. People (as a group) dont like being told that they are recepient of one sided favour for long.
The lack of any comment from pakistani here in such threads proves they feel quite awckward talking about it.

they should run like business only.. but with heat and mind..
mind will call only profit.. worth of dollar and ruppes
heart will call for human life worth
both extremes are dangerous
let doc/hospital decided who can need only mind .. who need only heart .. who need both..
in the end..
life is not always fair....so it leave that judgment to humans.. if they want be human or want to go back to animal spirit...

exam.. gilani from kashmir.. or kasab .. who again treated by doc in mumbai.. on whom / their fellow doc he /or his jihadist fired
