India introduces World's first hospital-train

.
Terrible idea, there is a reason why hospitals are built on solid ground and not on wheels.
It's not going to be moving as they perform screenings and operations. The point is it is a MOBILE health clinic. Look at the pictures and read the article, the facilities this train can provide are better than a lot of people in South Asia have immediate access to.

FYI this idea isn't unique to India at all:

Terribile idea though right- because this is India's?

Do you see the difference in quality between those medical trucks and the "hospital train" of India?

These are all screening clinics not preforming surgeries !!

.
This isn't a hospital train as in it will act as an ambulance or act as a hospital but is for screening and minor surgeries. For areas far removed from the advanced facilitates of modern hospitals in towns and cities the train can reach them. Here in the UK we have similar mobile screening vehicles but they are based on trucks.

I understand what you're saying but you do understand things improve piece by piece and not overnight- this train is a step in the right direction and will produce tangible benefits. Would you deny those people in rural communities who will be haloed by this train the opportunity just because India's healthcare isn't all that good as a whole?

I am saying while basic health care system has totally collapsed .,what are we going to achieve by piecemeal efforts .

I know something is better than nothing .

and I may sound absolutely pessimistic ...but

when whole sky is torn apart ...one can't be content with patch-work in few places ....

all successive governments have totally ignored the health sector

If you set to scrutinize so called India's elite government hospitals also which are lavishly funded ...will not pass the minimum standards of district hospitals in developed countries ....forget talking about primary health care !

I am against self congratulating about something as little as this when whole health system is non existent .

.
The services include surgeries for the restoration of sight, movement, hearing, correction of facial deformities and prevention and treatment of epilepsy and dental problems

including two that serve as operation theatres, where surgeries can be conducted on five patients simultaneously

Procedures performed include cataracts, middle ear surgery and plastic surgery for cleft lip and post burn contractures, said Gourh. Around 600 surgeries are conducted during every project.

Should we really comment based on assumptions.... I mean its a myth that basic medicine is costly.... What 90 percent of targetted populace (even in whole of SA) need is the cheap medicine prescribed my the Medical graduates. They dont even need specialist for that. And for your information this hospital is more than equipped to handle that.

Question is while developed countries have resources to do this ...what should be our priorities ?

and how long stop gap measures are going to remain priority instead of more important ground work ?

and perhaps because of such extravagant expenditures why NHS is near bankrupt ?

we need to invest on basic health care infrastructure ...which is still non existent after 6 decades of independence .

are we doing that ?

if yes - then is it enough ?

.
people who are saying its not a good idiea..please think that what this train will b used for......

this train will b used for treatment of rural people with little or no access to healthcare.....this is how it gonna work....

the train will move to a rural railway stations and will stay there for 1-7 days and treat poor with free regular checkups or free vaccination by this they can move to village by village and deliver their vaccination or treatment.....and support the cause

for some anti india eyes nd brains saying these will not b able to do surgeries
there is no way these gonna work while moving....say if a patient in a village A needs to get treated if this train is moving he will b dischaged at station E or F:cuckoo:

All countries follow multi pronged approach... Even the so called developed ones....
What we need is more public investment in health sector.... Its not neglected but usually not given importance it deserves.
