Chinese Scientists Make Breakthrough in Quantum Computing

Did I just read someone by the name of @Bussard Ramjet mentioned that the US decided to go underground with quantum research because it appeared to resemble what the US did with the nuclear bomb research? LOL That is one biggest joke I ever heard. LOL

He is basically putting quantum research (no real threat) on the same level as making a nuclear bomb research. The reason the US went underground with nuke bomb research is due to the sensitivity of war at the time. Quantum research is not that dangerous to go underground about it. Beside any scientist would take every chance and opportunity to publish their research finding to get recognization and chance of winning prize.

Now the real reality is that n term of Quantum Research, there are only 2 countries in the race, China and the USA. Everyone is a distant 2nd. Who lead this race remains to be seen.

All of what you have said is totally and completely wrong.

  1. Quantum research is no threat? LOL. You don't seem to know a thing about quantum research do you? Quantum IT can in fact be a bigger threat than nuclear bombs. If a person today has a quantum computer, they can break ANY AND EVERY classical encryption! That means your opponent country can in no way possible have secure communications.
  2. US went underground with nuclear bomb due to war? Not entirely correct. In fact they went underground in the late 30s, when US was not even in the war.
  3. Also, US and West has went underground with many many kinds of research even in peace time. Look at the whole development of internet. In fact, internet pretty much directly comes from DARPA's secret research.
  4. Also, you don't seem to know how science works. People in defense related sectors routinely forego any prize. In fact the RSA encryption that encrypts almost the whole internet, was first invented at UK secret service agency.
  5. Again the moniker of "Quantum Research." There is nothing like that. Quantum Mechanics is the foundation of science today, and it involves essentially everything. China is extremely weak in many fields of Quantum Mechanics, specially theoretical Quantum Mechanics.
  6. For our purposes what matters are four things: Quantum Computing, Quantum Cryptography/Communications, Quantum Sensors/Materials, and Quantum Computational Theory/Algorithms.
  7. Of these four fields, China is world class and one among leaders in only Quantum Cryptography. It is actually totally absent from Quantum Computational Theory/Algorithms. And it is some distance behind US in Quantum Computing.

Once again, you prove to people how dumb you are with this nonsense.

1. You got to be joking with me if you think Quantum computer is bigger threat than an atomic bomb. At WORSE case, a proliferation of quantum computer only destroy the world economies BUT a proliferation of nuke has to potential TO END ALL HUMAN CIVILIZATION. Do you understand this difference?

2. The US already helping out the Allies BEFORE they even enter the War. Like I said, the US went underground after having the intelligence from the British that the Nazi Germany is also working on atomic bomb in the 1930s.

3. Like I said, you can make anything up with the US going underground. The same I can say about China going underground. So what you actually know about our quantum research progression may be just a small percentage publicly.

4. Quantum research is a whole new ball game so what previous tech encryption is irrelevant.

5. Once again, you prove you don't really know anything! Quantum Mechanics is still a theory and to put a theory into practical use required applied science and this is where China is extremely strong. Also how do you know China is weak in Quantum Mechanics? Are you telling me our scientists never study Quantum Mechanics? LOL Quantum Mechanics is widely study and available throughout the world.

6. You can make up anything you want. But like I said, the US is NOT leading in any quantum field and certainly not quantum computer. They are in the process of doing exactly what we did. Currently there is no working quantum computer that act like a traditional computer and won't be for a long time. It is however worth noting that China currently hold the record of controlling the most qubit in a quantum computer. This is the comparison and a good benchmark to see who so far is leading the race. The US can fool a country like India but against someone like China who already on the leading edge of quantum research, we know exactly where the US stand on their quantum research.

If a person today has a quantum computer, they can break ANY AND EVERY classical encryption! That means your opponent country can in no way possible have secure communications.

Nobody said Quantum technology is not important, otherwise why do you think China is investing heavily in it. Equating it to the Manhattan project is absurd. By your logic, DARPA shouldn't even let civilians get access to GPS since all missiles are guided by it. Again, all military in the world would keep a portion of research secret, but you are saying as if all American quantum research is going silo ala nuclear bomb in the 40s. So your logic is this, if China is announcing a breakthrough, the Americans are far ahead because their research had gone silo? Can I apply the same logic to American breakthroughs, so China is actually far ahead of everybody but because we are going silo, we are not announcing it? Hey why not include India who has practically zero ability in this field, India is actually ahead but they it's secret since Indians 'don't like' to brag.

  1. US went underground with nuclear bomb due to war? Not entirely correct. In fact they went underground in the late 30s, when US was not even in the war.

They went silo when they saw the prospect of war and the possibility that Fascist Germany could be the first to own the bomb. The possibility of making an A bomb was only confirmed around 1938, the war started in 1939 genius.

The discovery of nuclear fission by German chemists Otto Hahn and Fritz Strassmann in 1938, and its theoretical explanation by Lise Meitner and Otto Frisch, made the development of an atomic bomb a theoretical possibility. There were fears that a German atomic bomb project would develop one first, especially among scientists who were refugees from Nazi Germany and other fascist countries.[2] In August 1939, Hungarian-born physicists Leó Szilárd and Eugene Wigner drafted the Einstein–Szilárd letter, which warned of the potential development of "extremely powerful bombs of a new type". It urged the United States to take steps to acquire stockpiles of uranium ore and accelerate the research of Enrico Fermi and others into nuclear chain reactions. They had it signed by Albert Einstein and delivered to President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Roosevelt called on Lyman Briggs of the National Bureau of Standards to head the Advisory Committee on Uranium to investigate the issues raised by the letter. Briggs held a meeting on 21 October 1939, which was attended by Szilárd, Wigner and Edward Teller. The committee reported back to Roosevelt in November that uranium "would provide a possible source of bombs with a destructiveness vastly greater than anything now known."[3]

[*]Also, US and West has went underground with many many kinds of research even in peace time. Look at the whole development of internet. In fact, internet pretty much directly comes from DARPA's secret research.[*]

It still doesn't prove that the Americans are going silo on quantum computing, are they secret programs? Who knows, there might be. Are you sure China doesn't have a secret program too?
Also, you don't seem to know how science works. People in defense related sectors routinely forego any prize. In fact the RSA encryption that encrypts almost the whole internet, was first invented at UK secret service agency.

Yah, only a genius like you knows how science works. By your logic we shouldn't even be doing research since this effort is futile and the Americans are all secretly far ahead. Ahh, we should learn from India, the best strategy is doing nothing.

Again the moniker of "Quantum Research." There is nothing like that. Quantum Mechanics is the foundation of science today, and it involves essentially everything. China is extremely weak in many fields of Quantum Mechanics, specially theoretical Quantum Mechanics.

OK, let me get this straight, someone creates a theory, then publish it, then a Chinese reads it, experiment with it and understands it. How does it make that Chinese weak?

For our purposes what matters are four things: Quantum Computing, Quantum Cryptography/Communications, Quantum Sensors/Materials, and Quantum Computational Theory/Algorithms.

Yah, you were talking about quantum everything, the apples and pears etc. Suddenly now, you create some hierarchy out of what I said.

[*]Of these four fields, China is world class and one among leaders in only Quantum Cryptography. It is actually totally absent from Quantum Computational Theory/Algorithms. And it is some distance behind US in Quantum Computing.

The are only 2 tangible field in the near future, telecoms and computers. How are you going to implement your 'theoretical algorithm' when the quantum computer is not even completed yet genius?

Quantum sensors, you mean like this one?:cheesy:

I think this guy is troll masquerading as a rational and productive member. It's in their culture, they argue for the sake or arguing, there is no intention on knowing the truth. They cannot accept that India is far behind in this game. Ex: you maybe better than me but big bully Jim is still better than all, he has a secret weapon...

Quantum Computing: The Future Of Computing Is Here, At Least In China; Highly Advanced Quantum Computer Model Developed

The quantum computer developed by Chinese researchers is more efficient than all the existing supercomputers.
(Photo : Veritasium/YouTube screenshot)
A group of researchers from the University of Science and Technology, Hefei, Anhui province of China has developed a quantum computer that supposedly works 24,000 times faster than all the prevailing supercomputer models. The invention is said to be a giant leap toward bringing quantum computing -- the future of computing to the present.

According to leading physicists across the world, the principles of quantum physics can be employed in developing novel methods and tools of quantum computing. Such tools can enable the production of quantum computers models that can accomplish extremely complicated calculations simultaneously and efficiently viz. predicting the movements of subatomic particles.

The high-efficiency and accuracy of these computers is attributed to their capacity to maintain their system memory in a quantum state rather than in the form of zero and one of the binary system, India Times reported. More precisely, quantum computers employ the phenomenon of superposition and entanglement, basic quantum physics principles to store the data in the form of quantum bits or qubits.

The quantum computer developed by Chinese researchers uses the five-photon sampling and entanglement method, an advanced version of the single-photon sourcing used in the quantum computers developed by IBM and D-Wave. They managed to do so by building the components required for Boson sampling, the theoretically proposed method of developing high-efficiency quantum computers.

The prototype developed based on this technology involves the inclusion of more number of photons. Doing so enhances the speed and efficiency of the quantum computer, PCWorld reported.

The only technical discrepancy of the developed quantum computer prototype is the fact that qubits are extremely fragile. The unstable nature of these qubits can cause their degradation during the process of entanglement, hence compromising the accuracy and efficiency of the computer.

Therefore, upscaling the production of such computers necessitates stabilizing the qubits. Once stabilized, these quantum computers can easily outpace almost all existing supercomputers. If China manages to do so, it will be a huge technological advantage for the country.

China’s New Type of Quantum Computing Device, Built Inside a Diamond

By Natalie Brown

May 11, 2017

A new quantum computing process has been developed by a team of Chinese researchers that may one-day help crack complex digital algorithms used in encryption. It involves using diamonds to break encryption and could be used in quantum code-breaking in the not too distant future.

The new type of quantum device was built inside a diamond in order to break down the number 35 into its factors of five and seven. Led by quantum physicist Professor Du Jiangfeng, the development of this new process may be just what we need to crack the encryption. Du Jiangfeng and team fired lasers ad microwave beams at particles inside the diamond’s “nitrogen-vacancy center”. Results from the experiment demonstrated that the particles locked inside the diamond were able to yield the solution in just two microseconds.

Quantum computers are extremely powerful tools that can solve complex equations in fractions of a second, hence why so many people are trying to be the first to develop a workable model. Not only will they be responsible for achieving one of the greatest feats in all of history, but they’ll also make a lot of money from it too.

In a similar experiment, researchers from Sandia National Laboratories in New Mexico and Harvard University embedded two silicon atoms in a diamond matrix in order to demonstrate how to successfully bridge quantum computers on an atomic level. Here, the team used an ion beam implanter to swap over the diamond’s carbon atom with a larger silicon atom. With regards to the Chinese experiment, it’s the first time researchers factorized a number built on solid material and could even favor certain numbers of six or more digits.

A Chinese team of researchers is busy experimenting on device, using diamonds, which can make quantum code-breaking a possibility in near future. If successful, the experiment will result in a new technology that can put the digital encryption tools protecting banks, governments and the military data to shame.

Quantum physicists in Hefei, Anhui province used a new type of quantum computing device built inside a diamond to break down the number 35 into its factors – the numbers five and seven. The researchers believe that the newly invented process, dubbed "factorization," could one day help crack the complex digital algorithm use in encryption today.

As part of the experiment, the team of researchers led by quantum physicist Professor Du Jiangfeng at the University of Science and Technology of China fired laser and microwave beams at particles locked inside the diamond's "nitrogen-vacancy centre" – an ideal space for subatomic interaction to occur.

According to the researchers, the particles trapped inside the diamond yield the solution in just two microseconds, which is even quicker than a lightning strike.

How powerful a quantum computer could be?

The popular RSA algorithm, which is used by modern computers to encrypt and decrypt messages, makes use of the product of two large prime numbers to encrypt a message. While it's impossible to decode by people who don't know the two prime numbers, even computers with enormous amount of digital computing power will take thousands of years to determine the prime numbers.

However, a quantum computer could theoretically solve this puzzle in just a second. Now that's the computing power researchers all around the world are striving to achieve.

Researchers from the same university also recently claimed that they have built the world's first quantum computing machine, which is said to be 24,000 times faster than its international counterparts.

In a similar experiment, researchers at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Harvard University managed to embed two silicon atoms in a diamond matrix to demonstrate a technique for connecting, or "bridging," quantum computers at an atomic scale.

To make this happen, the researchers used something called an "ion beam implanter" to replace a carbon atom of the diamond with the larger silicon atom. The process ensured that the electrons' responses in the silicon atom are not clouded by unwanted interactions with other matter.

When it comes to the latest Chinese experiment, this was the first time that researchers managed to factorise a number in a stable setting built on solid material. The researchers also claimed that their device was capable of factoring certain types of numbers of six digits or even higher.

"And it is scalable, which is a huge advantage of our system," one of the researchers said.

Less than a month after the breakthrough and we created a new quantum computing method.

Extremely busy these days. Will reply to you when I am free.

The only thing I will say is that such random articles about one or two achievements is misleading. There is a huge research community, all do very different kinds of things.

I will expound in detail later.

OK, waiting for you genius input to downplay all these achievements. Are you still in school? LOL

A typical response from our talented chemical engineering student again. If it is a new breakthrough made by American scientist, he will claim this as a new convincing proof about US's "indisputable leadership in quantum science"; but now this is something done by China, hmmm, this is nothing but "such random articles about one or two achievements is misleading".

What a genius!
