The story is written for internal consumption and would not sell well if it didnt paint some bleak dramatic prison escape picture. These people would only be confused and get uncomfortable to hear the plain truth that the place they have been thaught to be hell on earth with no freedom to question that narrative without group shaming and repercussions, is just a nice and well developed place. Very good question. Going to Taiwan is totally legal and very easy in China. My parents visited Taiwan several years ago. Why he had to do that? Is this some kind of action art? Or this man is a wanted crimimal who can not go Taiwan by regular ways?
