Ah so only the years when China passed the US in patents filed should be used as a baseline for eligibility of when say the average person in Brazil should be looking for some innovation from China that they can point to and say "Thank you China for this product" as years where China had lower patent filings than the US simply made them inherently junk patents and nothing should be expected of them.

You see, research and development is a function of economic progress. As China becomes richer, so does our technological achievement. We're already ahead in patents and research impact when we're just 80% of your nominal GDP. What will your excuse be in 10 years?

How is HSR some magic method measurement of success.

We have multiple companies that build jet airplanes that fly millions of people around the world. China has yet to have one successful plane.

Does that prove anything?
Infrastructure and manufacturing bring wealth.
The US's wealth WAS built on this by being one of the first countries that bring mass rail to connect the nation.

Planes are not as efficient.

Hold on, have you heard of Chinese Comac ARJ 21 and Comac C919 airliners ? And Comac C929 is coming, then we won't depend that much on Airbus and Boeing. By the way, Boeing airliners are close to junk these days, I don't know if the Chinese gov and companies are going to have big orders in the future.

I'm not sure I'm buying this logic of us being one of the first. We connected both our coasts together in 1869 while the steam locomotive engine was invented over 50 years before that. That's pretty slow.

I'm not sure I'm buying this logic of us being one of the first. We connected both our coast in 1869 while the steam locomotive engine was invented over 50 years before that.
Britain was the first to start mass-rail, then the US, then Germany.
Germany was then bombed to oblivion and it's the reason why US remains supreme.

Then Japan was up, and kneecapped due to internal traitors, and now it's China and Asia time, but this time US can't bomb us to oblivion anymore.

It always comes down to rail (i.e. infrastructure) and manufacturing. You can't use planes in day to day life.

No, those Chinese airplanes were already well into production before the Boeing accidents happened and noticed.

First commercial deliveries of the aircraft are expected no earlier than 2022 or 2023, to China Eastern Airlines. The aircraft, primarily constructed with aluminium alloys, is to be powered by either CFM International LEAP or ACAE CJ-1000A turbofan engines

Construction of the first prototype began by September 2021.



You listed 3 planes where

The first is based on the MD80/90 but has new GE engines and a redesigned Russian wing

The second has no deliveries until this year. Not sure if has even passed certification yet by the Chinese Government.

The third is only a prototype.

Yeah, ,all you west, including wikipedia, like to claim credits on Chinese products and tech, it's a known fact.

C919 will be certified by Chinese gov this year. In the near future, the C919 engines will supplied by Chinese domestic ones.

Even Boeing airplanes are built with many foreign supplied parts.

It's not about open society/democracy or anything like that. It's about the level of economic development. Super economic powers with high per capita income(not per capita GDP) have most breakthoughs in most basic fields. Because investment in basic science is costly and risky. Only rich countries can offer it. Middle economic powers with middle per capita income tend to have innovations in applied science. Applied science can make quick and decent money and is less risky. Low per capita income countries can only do copy work for quick money.

Before 2010, China was a low per capita income country. From 2011 to today, China is a middle per capita income country. Most China's innovations are in applied science. Very reasonable.

Oh come on will you stop that. The MD80/M90 has a very very very distinctive look with the engines on the sides near the tail. I don't think anybody else has built a full sized commercial plane that way since the 1970's (other than maybe the Russians).

Innovation is helped by a stable political environment, safe streets, economic prosperity, efficient infrastructure and an education system that produces steady stream of graduated suitable for the job market.

A similar tail of airplanes doesn't tell two have same or similar engines installed. I think the US do supply ARJ21 engines right now.

Well somebody doesn't know the history of planes

They had put the engines in the back because most airports in the world back then made people walk onto the tarmac and use staircases to get onto planes. If you put engines under the wings you have to raise the plane further off the ground to prevent stuff from being sucked into the engines. Unfortunately that makes the staircases taller. To mitigate this they moved the engines up to the fuselage rear and lowered the plane so the staircase heights wouldn't be ridiculous. Remember you have kids and little old ladies that have to climb these things.

When countries around the world switched to passengers tunnels to the aircraft doors instead of staircases they were able to raise the plane heights and put the engines under the wings.

China built the ARJ21 in 2002 with a design used for tarmac staircases...something that went out of style long ago....like the 1980's.
