India looks to China as an economic role model

MUMBAI: It seems to be a national obsession in India: measuring the country's economic development against China's yardstick. At a recent panel discussion to commemorate the 20th anniversary of India's dismantling parts of its socialist economy, a government minister told business leaders to keep their eye on the big prize: growig faster than China. "That's not impossible," said the minister, P Chidambaram, who oversees national security and previously was finance minister. "People are beginning to talk about outpacing China."

Indians, in fact, seem to talk endlessly about all things China, a neighbour with whom they have long had a prickly relationship, but which is also one of the few other economies that has had 8% or more annual growth in recent years. Indian newspapers are filled with articles comparing the two countries. Indian executives refer to China as a template for development. Government officials cite Beijing, variously as a threat, partner or role model. But if keeping up with the Wangs is India's economic motive force, the rivalry seems to be largely one-sided . "Indians are obsessed with China, but the Chinese are paying too little attention to India," said Minxin Pei, an economist who was born in China and who writes a monthly column for an Indian national daily newspaper.

The People's Daily, the Chinese Communist Party's house organ, had only 24 articles mentioning India on its English-language website in the first seven months of this year, according to the Factiva database.By contrast, The Times of India, the country's largest circulation English-language newspaper, had 57 articles mentioning China – in July alone.

Generally with what the Chinese have achieved in the last 30 years, establishing a quality army, quality trade links, quality in EVERY field - they have a right to be arrogant ten times more than they can ever be. They are what all countries should look up to!

A month back every thing was calm on Indo Chinese front on PDF, except for our in house victim card holder. Now some new kids from China have joined and the war has started again. Once the new kids cool their heels we can have a detente.

People's Daily and Xinhua are the source to refer to for any influential views regarding Chinese diplomacy. Global Times is where the fringe and more extreme voices are concentrated. While all three are government run, Global Times is less credible and more of an outlet to vent anger from members of government.

When People's Daily and Xinhua start posting these kind of views, then the government has reach a consensus. Otherwise, this is no more serious than a government official posting his personal views on a blog.

Yes, I agree that defensive action could have been taken by Vietnam. But you need to address the basic premise first. Is it not so that due to Communist Party's claim on East / West Sea is causing this hate for Chinese in East Asian countries? First it was Vietnam and now it is Phillippines. Obviously no one with honor will keep quiet if China will try to take their territory away!

Comon buddy even US have a quality Army and quality tradelink does that give them a wright to be arrogant or bombing countries if yes then don't blame them next time when another drone strike happens cause its you guys who give them such courage.
