What's new

China's start-up city

More like Silicon Valley in USA I guest, so in your opinion, why do they have that kind of spirit.......?

I am not sure, but I guess these are factors:
- First batch of cities with economic reform, longer history of liberalism
- Far away from political center Beijing, less talking more doing
- Vicinity to Hong Kong, a bridge to the world on money, hardware, information & ideas
- The whole province of Guangdong has millenium old tradition/spirit in business
- A city formed by immigrants (both Chinese & foreign), who have nothing to loose but thrive to succeed

But not to discredit Beijing & Tianjin which are also IT hubs in northern China with advantages like:
- Vicinity to national-level research/education institutes
- Government and large SOE to provide leadership, especially on national/strategic level projects
- A lot of immigrants (though less than Shenzhen) with entrepreneurial spirit

Beijing's IT is not bad, is Baidu from Beijing?
Alibaba is in Hangzhou. I'd like to see IT giants based the interior in the future. We have talents! (Xiaomi's boss is from my province, from my dad's hometown half an hour from Wuhan by HSR)

Silicon Valley and Shenzhen

Cyril Ebersweiler, the 36-year-old founder and managing director of Haxlr8r -- a Shenzhen-based hardware start-up accelerator -- says it makes sense that entrepreneurs are flocking in ever-greater numbers to the epicenter of the world's electronics manufacturing, despite any uncertainties about China's socio-political evolution.

Is he American? His name and look , however, makes me think he is a German national ?

2015 Q1 nominal GDP growth rates of Guangdong Province and its 21 prefecture-level and sub-provincial regions :hitwall:

Shenzhen stands out with a nominal y-o-y growth of 18.32% :D

Don't ever underestimate the Cantonese Capability, buddy. Imagine in one province alone (Guangdong) you have the Great Three Pearl River Cities: Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Shenzhen.

Better improve your Cantonese or Hakka skills...LOL!!!!!

Man o man ! I think i'm going to have a heart attack if i keep on staring at Angelbaby Yeung....one more time....:lol:

It's the same in all the capitals..............

Yes, the differences of citizens of Beijing and Shenzhen are like ground and sky. I got this impression since I've been both cities for many years. For example, in Shenzhen, the cars always yield to pedestrians if they come across on the road, in Beijing, rude drivers always use the horn to warn pedestrians go away, no respect at all....

No offence to locals...Real Cantonese are not so beautiful, generally speaking...But there are lot of immigrants from the north...Like in HK, most actors and actress originate from mainland before 1949....

Certainly, even people in Shenzhen look different compared to her neighbor HK. For example i have some Hakka friends, few of them we can easily tell they have typical Hakka look, while the others don't look like Hakka to me. About the eyes, not every Cantonese have big eyes and the shape of the eyes does vary from all parts of China.
So you have a crush on Angela baby? :D
