China's Pivotal Role in Hollywood's Billion Dollar Movie Club

Well, I don't know which part of People Republic of United States you are from, but in the Actual USA, you won't have LEA asking for an ID for ANYPERSON, doesn't matter if it is White, Black and Chinese.

To be clear, you are not require to bring your ID with you all the time in the US, unlike Hong Kong, unless you are trying to access highly secure area or you are operating any type of Machines that require license.

ACLU would have a field day if Arizona decided they need to issue people State ID and require all Arizona resident to carry them for no particular reason

Do blacks have a deep impact on American society other than for certain unpreferred activities? Yet why is it that it is absolutely taboo to make fun of blacks? I do recognize that blacks suffer discrimination, but why do Asians who suffer discrimination as well, also get made fun of, and nobody steps up?

Chink in the armor referring to Jeremy Lin - does the media dare say the n**** on the field, referring to Michael Jordan?

And I don't mind if Asians are absolutely invisible - that'd be great too. What I do mind is the hugely negative portrayals of Asians. Harold and Kumar is a comedy movie - they will never be heroes like Iron Man or whatever white Man there is. But then you have 16 Candles, Breakfast at Tiffany's, and Two Broke Girls.

Dude, black were made fun of all the time. Did you just watch Hollywood movie that make fun of Chinese??

Don't forget the 2 broke girl example you mention, where the show make fun of Earl in a string of black stereotype

I think he is talking about the Arizona police stopping suspicious people and asking for ID because they think they are border jumpers.. You still aren't required to carry ID. It's not like they will throw your @ss over the fence if you don't.

Why do Chinese need to break into Hollywood? America is a European dominated country, and the movies must reflect that. I personally don't like to watch an Asian James Bond, like James Wong? Hell no, Danial Craig is awesome.

On the financial scale, top Chinese actor Huang Xiaoming, also one of my fav, earned a reported 75 million last year, and he ears around 30-80 million a year just in China. Obviously that's one guy, but the money is good in China.

The only other reason is global notoriety, but that's difficult even for Americans. Most Chinese, even my English speaking cousin, has no idea who 99% of the actors or actresses are, and don't want to know.

I do not bring in the topic on why or how a Chinese actor make it big in Hollywood, it was said somewhere between post 1 and post 10, check it yourselves.

US is a big melting pot, it's movie industry reflect that, you can make a movie in the US with all Chinese Cast for all people care, as long as you can sell it, there will always be a production company backing it and greenlit it.

Although I have to say there are more and more foreign influence in Hollywood these day, especially TV when you can see almost half of the current show in US are remake of foreign show, from American Idol to The bridge, to the Killing to Secrets and Lies.

Are there any stereotype in Hollywood? Certainly, but isn't it the same around the world?

lol IIRC constitution only allow Police to check ID of a person with Probably Clause, not like they can pull you over when you are walking and ask you for an ID for no particular reason.

If that happens I would say S.C.R.E.W Y.O.U

In fact, I was in a running gun battle with the Wichita PD once, and they have to apologise and pay to fix my car for firing at me without a warning. I should have sue them for like a millions bucks....

Your papers do not appears to be in order.

lol me paper are no in order, its unpossible

I hate to break it to you, Hollywood still depict Chinese as whores, villains or asexual nerds.

If you want to make the change, you don't buy the product hurt their bank account, not buy the product hoping for a change.

India stopped making anti-pak movies to not hurt their **** customers feelings.....

. . .
Really ? Could you please elaborate on that 'fact' ?

Well, I was driving along, and some dude knock off a bank and driving a getaway car similar to mine and the Police gave chase, an unmarked car without siren and flash spotted me instead and order me to get out of my car, all the while they did not say they are police officer, just keep saying "Get out of the vehicle"

I thought I was being jacked so I pull my side from my glove box and show it to him trying to scare him off and they start firing, and I shoot back, then some black and white arrived took me custody.

They brought me back to the station and I told them, they didn't say they are Po-Po. and they check the dash cam of the unmarked squad and that only record the officer said "Get out of the Vehicle". They apologise to me and offer to fix my car up and I took it lol

People who are thinking it's easy for anyone (not only Asian or Chinese) to break out in Hollywood have to be living in his dream.

One need to realise, movie industries type cast a lot, and this does not just happen in the US, but all over the world. When you are making a movie in the US, you expect your "hero" or "heroine" to be able to communicate to the audience, someone who they can be relate to, and by communicate, I don't mean talk. That's why you almost always end up having a white guy or girl playing the title or first billing in any Hollywood movie.

Think of it this way, if an action movie is being make and screen in China, targeting Chinese audience, do you think the Director would want Bradley Cooper to be the hero in the movie??

I don't think one should be too worried about 'breaking into' Hollywood anymore. It's become too formula based. About 5 years ago I hardly saw anything except Hollywood. Bollwood with its lame movies hardly appealed, But now with Hollywood becoming formula based- make a movie on Ironman, make one on Thor, put them both in Avengers etc- the emphasis on an engaging story is just gone. Other countries where the frachise format has not taken off have seen surging revenues and are coming up with superb movies. The one below was a global hit (even Steven Spielberg says he saw it 3 times). I have found that my own share of Indian movies have gone up drastically. I don't think one loses much (except money of course) by not launching in Hollywood.

The Asian actors in the Hollywood movies all look very nerdy whether it is East Asian or South Asian.

Typical stereotype from Hollywood.

Nah, we will always remain as the minority among the population, it is unlikely to reach among the mainstream audience.

Blacks and Latinos might have a better chance here because of the population advantage.

The cost to make the movies in Hollywood is increasing in an unsustainable manner, yet they still haven't improved the quality of their movies with a bunch of overpaid celebrities.

Their domestic market is oversaturated, and the oversea box office is small except China, so they need to exploit the booming Chinese market in order to sustain their film industry.

BTW, i think China should impose more restriction, since we cannot let them to feed our audiences with all kind of crap.

if Chinese are willing to watch crap like Transformers that had a rating of 18% in Rotten Tomatoes soon to make it the highest grossing film in China, I have no hope for China's future.

They are watching for the special effects only and don't give a crap about those Hollywood celebrities.

BTW, I think the highest gross Hollywood movie in the future will be Avatar 2/3.

Buddy, I grew up with 'Black Belt Theater' with kung-fu flicks from China that were so schlocky that if Rotten Tomatoes existed back then, it would have registered into the negative. If the Chinese can produce crap like that and American audience can enjoy them, the Chinese can enjoy the Transformers movies.

Give US all a break and get of your faux sophistication high horse.
